Can you make you your own timothy biscuits?

A sheepish thank you! I did search before posting, but clearly not well enough  I appreciate the links!

    What age to dispatch?

I know it's an old post, but I didn't see my method of weighing rabbits mentioned -- in a cat carrier. My rabbits love the carrier. They go in on their own and sometimes just hang out there. It fits perfectly on a digital scale designed for weighing babies. I already had that (bought second...

    Questions for 1st rabbit show

Alaska Satin & Rabbits of the Creek have excellent answers, as usual. I've been to several shows in Northern Colorado (and Wyoming). They've been popular! Kinda crowded! Three additional tips to build on what you have here already: Even if you're not a fan of facebook, consider joining the...

Can you make you your own timothy biscuits?

I hadn't found that link yet! Good ideas. I agree, they seem like they'd be pretty sweet. But nice to see some options! I too have a glut of alfalfa leaves and scraps of hay the bunnies say they're too good for, hahaha. (Not very relevant, but a tip for anyone raising both rabbits and cavies...

Can you make you your own timothy biscuits?

I had a moment of realization that they're probably not cooked. Since rabbits shouldn't really have cooked food. A few of my rabbits have eaten the odd bit of homemade granola (like for people) and not died, but in general, they don't eat cooked stuff. So maybe they are a mash that's then...

Can you make you your own timothy biscuits?

Timothy biscuits (see photo): I probably shouldn't have started on these, but the rabbits started as pets. And sort of still are. And now the rabbits like my spouse more than me because he feeds them treats every day. But... they are more expensive than breakfast cereal. o_O I did try making...

    Tattooing age

I like that! I think I'll adopt a similar format (if you don't mind.) Agree, sometimes the best-looking one early on gets surpassed by a sibling.

    Tattooing age

Silly question, but how do you know the order? I don't watch my does kindle so I have no idea what the birth order is. Do you just pick an order?

    Tattooing age

I know this is an old post, but I'm also wondering about tattooing now that I have some purebred kits. (with mixed breeds going to pet homes it didn't seem necessary). For our kits that look alike, we use gel food coloring. I've also used permanent marker but it smells chemically and I didn't...

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

The kits are 16 days old now. The one I thought was opal but might be lynx has turned blond. It's adorable, IMO. Does this still seem like lynx? I'm really not (yet) confident distinguishing between those lynx and opal.

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

Amazing info and advice! The highly variegated mixed yarn best-seller sounds like a real mixing pot, but I can see why it would be popular. Interesting, but still subtle. I don't think I've ever seen a Harlequin Angora! So far, I'm working exclusively with plucked fiber. Oddly, my most...

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

Judymac, What would you say your favorite rabbit-colors to spin are? I've been struck by just how much lighter the fiber is off the rabbit. Even my "all black" boys produce fiber that spins up a light gray. Still beautiful, but now I'm thinking about growing some complementary natural dye plants...

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

Thanks! Yes, the chestnut one is the only one I'm really confident about naming the color for right now. I know for sure the sire carries dilute and that he's a chocolate base. Still surprising about chocolate kits if that's what we're seeing. But I think chocolate long-haired rabbits are...

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

If the kits are chocolate, it's a surprise, but nice. And ok, I edited to not call them high rufus. No one here is thrianta level. (That deep red would be great. maybe someday!) The sire is a nice, strong orange and almost all of his kits either are orange or appear orangish in addition to...

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

Here are some more photos from their first full day. Yes, it's possible that the doe could be carrying chocolate. These are her first kits and there are zero chocolate-family ancestors on her pedigree, but as you say, that doesn't mean chocolate isn't there. I was guessing based on pedigree...

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

Adding an updated photo of the kits at 11 days old. I thought for a minute that the two orange looking kits might just be orange, but no, they were not pink at birth and they have some classic agouti patterning that you wouldn't see on orange. (Orange are agouti, but the non-extension cancels...

The best hay feeder costs $1.36

Love this design! Looks great. Yes, dollar tree and stores like it are a great way to "think outside the box" and deploy a little creativity. :D

The best hay feeder costs $1.36

I almost got those but realized they wouldn't work well for an outside-the-cage application. But I'm glad to know they're working well for you!

Jersey Wooly kit colors (with cute pictures) and a lesson in recessive genes

Four kits born on the 18th with a surprise (to me) color! I had to revise this post because it originally said I wasn't confused and it turns out I was, hahaha. Here's what I know about the genotypes of these two cute Jersey Woolies (revised, and I'll explain why.) Sire: AAbbCCDdee (orange)...

The best hay feeder costs $1.36

The floral wire idea is great! I happen to have some right now from a Christmas arrangement we were given. The idea of cage wire creating a hay slot between two cages is perfect too. Maybe when I revise my setup again I'll try that. It reminds me a little of this great hay station for cavies...
