    Missing eyeball - Birth defect

I have been thinking about this and I believe you are correct in your summation...it is difficult to breed a doe that has thrown defects...it had a cleft pallet kit and struggled with breeding the dam again..she has had two litters sense but she has other problems..so she's headed for camp. I...

    Missing eyeball - Birth defect

I just took a quick look at vinyl toxicity, Mother earth news has a couple of interesting articles...but from what most of the info says it is most toxic when burning. ..but there are so many warnings about having it around babies..scary stuff. May want to see if the next litter from the mom...

    Missing eyeball - Birth defect

Man that is a bummer, I believe that cm farm had a valid point in that the eyeball may not have developed at all..Coyote joe(a member )had a kit born without an eyeball. .he found out when it failed to open the eye..With the possable ingestion of toxic material, who knows what was affected...

    Missing eyeball - Birth defect

There may be a bit more going on with this kit..From the first picture the nose looks a little off to one side as well as the split between the upper lip,..Possible cleft pallet? :? What to do with the kit is up to you, I would give the doe another chance..Maybe with a different buck. The...

Is this wetness around her eye something to worry about?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. .you can get terramycin at feed stores..probably pet stores too..use it for 9 days. Twice daily. If there is an infection that should do the trick..it looks like the edges are irritated..but that could be from her rubbing it.. A warm teabag compress should...

    What about a nail gun?

The topic may be distasteful to some...but those of us who raise meat rabbits need to discuss dispatch methods. We need to be sure that the dispatch is quick and pain free as possible. .we do not want to cause any pain or distress to the animal..we treat out animals with respect and yes,even...

    fur mites *sigh*

:yeahthat: If your buns are in hutches the wood is a great hiding place...I have wood frame hutch/cages and am still battling ear mites ..treat everyone and all the wood joints and corners...I am pretty sure my mite issue is from the poor storage practices of the local feed store.all hay is...

    Breeding Uncertainty

:yeahthat: I would keep the nest box and material for the nest..just hay..in the cage for 38 to 40 days after separating them too...just to be safe..you don't want kits on the wire..best of luck with the litter and the new bunns. And welcome to rabbit talk..this is a great place. Lots of info...

    Breeding Uncertainty

If you didn't witness the breeding, how do you know that she is indeed pregnant? Has it been 40 days sense you separated them, or 40 days sense you got her? The reason I ask is because gestation is 28 to 35 days with 31 being the avrage...there are members that have had live litters after...

    Fattier rabbit?

I had a really fat buck come back to me, I butchered him the same day, but he was filthy from living in an aviary, I believe he lived in a chicken coop, but I can't prove it...Anyway.. I had a hard time finding his organs as well and I had to pull off handfuls of fat..YUCK...there was so much...

    Odd things you've heard

I was in the pharmacy the other day and the guy told me that as a kid he raised American Chinchillas....Well when a tornado came through it took all his rabbits away. Then a few years later he was told of Giant jackrabbits with grey fur, He surmised that the jack rabbits must have bred with his...
