    Quick! talk me down!

Holland Lops are a waste of fur. They are vermin. There is over population at the shows. The best one could hope for is 7th place out 19 in Junior Buck class. It takes way too many of them to make a meal. I hope that helps. Have a joyful day!

    "Tipping" the Nestbox

Time to tip the nestbox. A nestbox on its side also makes it possible for the doe to jump on top of the box to get away from the kits. Don't try to make the kits "jump for it" since they need to cluster with the rest of the kits for warmth so make it easier on them. Be sure your cage wall wire...

    Velvet Lions?

I'll tell you, if I wanted them I'd pay $50 for them. We've spent hundreds on rabbits for our breeding program. It's still cheaper than raising horses. Have a good day!

    Velvet Lions?

If you wanted to make one yourself you would have to buy a minirex ($25) and a lionhead ($25). Buying the cross will save you three to six months in development time. Have a good day!

    NZR buck *critique, please!*

Yes, he could be the foundation of a line of red meat mutts with meaty loins and hindquarters. Breed his daughter back to him and you should get some red kits in the litters. Keep some of those kits to breed back the does. Line breeding will help you strengthen the red (rufous) genes in the...

    Velvet Lions?

I don't know how the angora gene that creates the mane and the rex gene that creates the plush are going work together? I just can't imagine what kind of fur is going to happen. Have a good day!

    Creatures of the Meatiness Persuasion

My sons took Am Chins to the County Fair and made it to the auction with single fryers. The auctioneer noticed the different color fur right away and went on about the nice looking fur. They sold for a total of $184 for two fryers. You can see my meat pen notes at...

    NZR buck *critique, please!*

We like how wide he is but the topline is not big enough in the hindquarters. Put him on the show table so you can learn what the judges are looking for. Have a good day!

    Lionheads

Lionheads are not any more mean than other breeds. There are some sweet Lionheads. Breed sweet rabbits and remove mean rabbits from the breeding program. The last holder of the Certificate Of Development failed, the next holder takes over. Another 3 to 5 years of development. I saw a photo...

    Vulva colors?

I have to agree with ottersatin. Pale is not a condition that is good for breeding. I was told that by my rabbit mentor many years ago and it has been correct most of the time. I breed them anyway because that's how the breeding schedule went and usually it was not productive. You can see my...

    Franco's FAQ Meat Rabbits

Ann, got it, thanks! I'm going to work on a rewrite of the linebreeding section because of some observations from a couple other forums. It will help pull together some loose ends and make the FAQ better. SNR, you're entering the Satin Angora in meat pen just for fun right? A lot of judges...

Hay, the best feed in an emergency

I agree. When we happened to run out of feed, we usually had hay stashed on the shelf, even though we had a small rabbitry. If you need to split a bale of hay for handling and storage, I have a article I wrote on my website: How to split a bale of hay (written by a city boy)...
