    Hand feeding newborn kits

So a few days ago Della Rose ripped her poor little tummy skin open, it was really a decent gash (about dime sized) but she didn't seem to notice poor dear. Racing around like loon.. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I figured out that she ripped it open on the hay feeder that was sitting in their cage...

    New Kits! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!! Your first set of kittens, how exciting!! Like mentioned above, don't worry about handling them (I actually tend to take the kits and shelve them inside the house from day 1 and only bring them out for feeding 2x a day for about 2-3 weeks... never had a doe reject them even...

    Happy Birthday to ohiogoatgirl!

    Happy birthday lady! :D

    New website / Rabbitry name

I added the definition just in case anyone else didn't know what that was... because I had to google it! To tell the truth, I actually have vey large biceps for a woman, especially for a 4'11" woman. Bench pressed 180lbs at a competition in 2015  But I won't show off my flexing...

    Chickens!

Awe!! I love baby chicks, and the chickens they grow up to be. I cannot wait until we have the land to get chickens again. :in_love:

A cayuse? "Cayuse is an archaic term used in the American West, usually referring to a feral or low-quality horse or pony." It's a large rabbit Maggie! I was always a fan of those old pictures that depicted a cowboy riding a jackrabbit. For example: So that's sort of what this is. :D...

    New website / Rabbitry name

It's not important enough to pay for it each year, and the hubby wants to purchase a domain name here soon anyway so I may piggyback off his later, but more than likely I'll just stick with a nice free domain that can't be easily linked to me. (I don't like how easy it is to look up who owns a...

    BABY BUNNY VANISHED!!!!

I've been there, I didn't think the kits were big enough to get out of their drawer and I left it open, came home to find zero kits in the nest, Louie and Della snuggling on the floor next to the drawer, "we've made a mistake, please put us back", Lady G I finally found cuddled in a corner (they...

This makes me uncomfortable too, I've really toyed with not selling the kits at all since I truly don't know what sort of home they are going to and it may be more humane just to give them a super happy and healthy 8-12 weeks of life, then a quick dispatch. Instead of, I don't know, getting...

Hand raising the bunny named Snickers

I'd say just go with your gut on this one, when he's no longer interested in the food I wouldn't try and feed him any more. If you're concerned I'd weigh him each day before feeding just to make sure he is gaining weight. If he's static or even losing weight then I would definitely be concerned...

Hand raising the bunny named Snickers

Getting attached are we? I totally understand  To be honest I expected to go to using a bottle and nipple system with my bottle babies but actually never did, I'm starting to wean them off formula now at 6 weeks of age and I'm still using a glass dropper to feed them. They do the sucking...

See, that's what I mean. Especially if you had something in your policy about not refunding or replacing if it were due to their neglect I feel (some) people would make sure NOT to tell you that they only fed it carrots instead of feeding it the food you sent with it. "No! I followed everything...

    New website / Rabbitry name

I did search for sales policies on the forum to see what others had suggested, and I did a google search for "rabbitry" and then dug around in other people's sales policies to get a general idea of what I wanted to do. So some things may indeed be really similar if you had posted it on the forum...

    New website / Rabbitry name

Well I'm still waiting on something for the website but I figured I would go ahead and release it today so I can get some opinions on it. Please let me know if you see any typos or have any recommendations! (Especially the sales policy...) The reason behind marketing "Astrex Rabbits" is...

    Poll: Age at Sale

In my state I have never found a minimum age requirement, but as Ladysown mentioned most states say 8 weeks minimum age and a few at 6 weeks, and then the outliers like Colorado.. 4 weeks. So just to be safe, and because I feel the longer time with momma to be healthy I'm happily stuck with 8...

    Poll: Age at Sale

Yikes... 4-5 weeks? That's too young for me. Meat mutts, I put them up for sale once they are old enough and if they don't sell by the time they reach 5lbs... they go off the market. :) What age do you start selling rabbits at? 8 weeks What is the youngest you have ever sold a rabbit? 8...

How to keep the kits from falling

No problem! That's what we're here for, sometimes the simplest of solutions escape us  By the way, welcome to the forum!

How to keep the kits from falling

I would definitely move them down, you can use a cardboard box as a temp solution (closed with a hole cut large enough for the mother in the side) and get a wooden nest box (build or purchase). I actually am using a small dresser drawer flipped upside down with a hole cut out of the side as a...

unfed kits on day 5 questions

I'm so sorry Rainey. :( I'm glad she is eating again but I feel for your loss of the kits.

    Hand feeding newborn kits

Girl, I still occasionally call Della Rose by her previous name, though "Della" is pretty close in sound to "Twilla" so she often hears just Della since it's an easy switch. Poker Alice's name has actually been easier! I was never fond of the name Jeri for her and Alice just seemed to slip right...
