A rabbit that likes to lick me but avoids being touched.

I have a buck that licks and chin my hand daily when I feed and water him. He'll come to the cage door and even sticks his head out the door. However if I try to pet him he avoids it. He only allows me to sometimes touch his hind back area without moving away.

I now feed them after 4pm.

Got tired of getting up to feed them so I kept doing it later till I sometimes finish just before dark. Happy it's daylight savings now. Well feed gone up again. Sux when each time is higher than the last month. Gas been going up each week too.

Had 4 NZ die in the past month

You should have cut them open and examined them, taken pictures and posted them. The only thing I can assume from you lack of information is that the rabbits were healthy enough to live at least 2 months after you got them. You might want to ask the person who you bought from to give you some...

    Best, Cleanest, Fastest Dispatch?

I used to have a Winchester .177 pellet break-barrel air rifle. Shooting the back of the head will have the rabbit just instantly drop dead. I've even done it indoors with the rabbit in an iron washtub.

    Nursing?

I prefer to bring the expecting doe indoors during winter in a indoor cage. Once I had kits die even in mild temperatures in the 60's. They can't stand the chill when they are naked. Also if they are cold they won't feed.

    Cold and rabbits

I have mostly Lionhead, Dutch, Mini Lop, and lately French Angora. Don't know what was my first rabbit but she was short hair medium size.

    Cold and rabbits

When I had my first rabbit and the overnight temperatures went down to the teens the first time, I stayed up all night checking on her every couple hours. I found her resting on hay and she was toasty warm. After that I don't worry about the cold. Another winter I once forgot to turn off my...

What would work best for my situation? Bottles or system?

You can use some kind of heating system to keep water from freezing. I use bowls in freezing weather. They can at least lick the ice whereas they'll get nothing from frozen bottles. Some days I fill the bowls with lukewarm water so it stays liquid longer.

How plump is too plump for kits?

With 3 kits you don't really have to worry. If it makes you feel better you can take the nest box out of the cage and let it back for a feeding just once a day. If mom nurse when you put in the nest box, then you can let her at them again after 24 hours. Be careful as some moms don't like you...

Considering cost of chicken house vs rabbit cages; getting scratches from rabbits; breeding; processing. I only raise rabbits.

    Keeping in touch.

Earlier this year I called a friend and found out his wife had passed since my last call a year or two ago. He also told me he had cancer and was going into hospital for treatment. Today I found out he had passed last month.

i wonder why one of my bucks haven't touched his pellets for

2 days. He did eat a couple leaves of kale and greens yesterday. I was out of greens today. I changed the pellets in his bowl today to see if it would make a difference. He seems to be in good health and chinned and licked my hands. His stomach felt OK.

-- Mon Nov 30, 2020 3:53...
