Anyone using Angoras for meat?

All rabbits are made of meat! :D If you want Angora get them, culls can be eaten, young stock can be sold. For more meat faster - and lovely hides - get a meat buck to cross every now and then with your does. My crosses gave me a lovely dressed out carcass, nice big loins, and not too far...

    Back into the Meat Buns!

I knew someone once that had the most amazing herd of New Zealand's of all colors you could ever imagine. Ultra fantastic rabbits and he made a good supplemental income selling the kits for just $10 each. When the going rate was $50! He said that at his price ALL his kits sold...

Are chickens easier and cheaper than rabbits?

I agree, it all depends upon what you are aiming for. Chickens and rabbits just go together for me because I hate waste of all kinds and between them they can eat everything we don't. All veg scraps go to the bunnies and all leftovers go to the chickens. No matter how good I am at using up...

Is there a market for a new kind of dispatcher?

I had a fantastic idea for a handheld dispatcher which my youngest son and I are going to make (once we get the equipment for melting down and sand-casting recycled aluminum) but I started wondering how much of a market there is for something new for killing rabbits/poultry? Have looked online...

    Bought as Blue but???

What color is she really? https://photos.app.goo.gl/5q1fGHbYRWmtEDAi9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/X4kZdYMwHedP1k1XA With lockdown and winter driving conditions and distance and the difficulty of even finding any, I bought a trio of Rex based upon talking to the breeder and three pictures and...

Strongly Considering Colony Setup but have questions

Wow! Talk about win WIN!!! :D And water is so important and hard to manage sometimes. In freezing weather I carry out very hot water and pour it into the crocks but as my buns now eat mostly veg/root peelings they seem to drink almost nothing so it is a bit of a wasted effort, more for me...

A rat foiling idea I had last night!

A rat foiling idea I had last night!

Just bought a 6ft by 8ft metal shed and am setting it up in the courtyard this week. The ground consists of hardpan with a deep gravel covering which should be hard for the VERY evident rat population to dig through and into the shed. Once it is all set up I will have a 6 ft by 4 ft by 2ft...

    Ultra fat rabbits on scraps

Thank you :D I am LOVING being able to buy 4 pounds of carrots for less than 50 cents or an entire rutabaga for the same. It means I can feed everyone and have loads of leftovers for the buns.

__________ Tue Jan 12, 2021 7:47 pm __________

OMG, I just counted my...

    Ultra fat rabbits on scraps

Living now where veg are affordable we get to eat lots of it and have heaps of peelings left over so my four buns have only had pellets about once a week, if even. The rabbits get all of it, veg, fruit, potatoes, the lot. My cages are large enough for them to get lots of exercise and they...

Questions about different types of tans

When hide is fresh from rabbit wash in cold water with a small amount of dish soap. This removes any blood. I then flesh with scissors as the fat and connective tissue lifts away from the hide as I cut small strips off. It takes me over half an hour per hide but it is worth the time as I get...

    Can buns safely eat Crocosmia

Thank you! I was having no luck at all finding anything out about it. Love it though so will plant oooodles of it and just enjoy the nectar-filled blossoms myself.

Intruducing new veg to rabbit with sensitive stomach ?

How much room does your bunny have? I find that makes a big difference to how well my rabbits handle new foods. LOTS of exercise keeps the guts healthy but in a "normal" size of cage rabbits get very little exercise and hence tend to get upset tummies due to new foods. I seldom use any cage...

    Can buns safely eat Crocosmia

It is listed as a plant to use in the flower bed as wild rabbits don't like it but that doesn't answer the question of whether or not rabbits can actually eat it safely or not. Does anyone know? It grows rampantly here and is beautiful so it would be nice if it could be fed as well.

My crazy sheep idea- All the animal crazy, all the time!

Ah, that explains it. Breeding for only one trait and letting all the rest go to hell is why dairy goats are as delicate as orchids now. I am carding Shetland wool right now (one of the blue shades, the name escapes me  ) and it is lovely but then again, Shetland sheep are...

My crazy sheep idea- All the animal crazy, all the time!

Sorry if I missed it and am asking a silly question but why did you cull the Shetlands? As my dream breed of choice, I am wondering what was wrong with them?

My crazy sheep idea- All the animal crazy, all the time!

Sounds a brill and productive trip! Mmmmm love raccoon meat. Used to use a VERY large trap for them in my yard as anything called a raccoon trap was designed by someone who has never actually SEEN an adult 'coon and how big they really get. Marshmallows are a good bait with no cat...
