    Rabbits or not

A friend of mine recommended I might enjoy raising quail but I was uncertain after reading a little and seeing how small their eggs are. Can you share more about how you use them, how often they lay, etc? Thank you!

    Not new, but returning!

Those are some nice weights. where is the breeder located?

    Its too hot

Do you leave the ice in the dish pan or do you remove the huge piece of ice and put it in the enclosure without the dish pan? BTW, I'm in SW PA. Where about are you located?

    Just starting out.

Here is how I have been doing this and it has worked very well: in nature, rabbits wean at 4 weeks. I always prefer to mimic nature as much as possible. However, to pull 4 week babies from mom's enclosure to a growout enclosure can shock some kits and then the risk of death can occur. To...

Rabbit sold has died. What happened?

Interesting hypothesis. My sympathy for the loss of your rabbits. I'm glad to know you were able to save a few. I use Manna Pro Pro Formula and I believe that is what she was using. None of her other rabbits were affected. So I would rule out feed.

    Catching Rabbit Poop

Do you have a photo of your system? The droppings on the ground are still being used in my gardens, however, so still no waste.

    Catching Rabbit Poop

I NO LONGER ADVOCATE THIS SETUP I gotta tell you, I am now switching from that setup to the traditional “let it all drop to the ground” because I have realized that my initial set up shown earlier in this thread has two very negative attributes: it is labor intensive, needing to be cleaned...

The New Safe Plants for Rabbits List

I would definitely be interested in both your varieties. I will definitely pay for postage and then some. I love sunchokes and so do my rabbits! Mine are all a much smaller variety of tubers (perhaps the actual native variety?). It would be wonderful to have tubers much easier to prepare for...

I gotta tell you, I am now switching from that setup to the traditional “let it all drop to the ground” because I have realized that my initial set up shown earlier in this thread has two very negative attributes: it is labor intensive, needing to be cleaned and flushed several times per week in...

The New Safe Plants for Rabbits List

I would be very interested in some tubers from your varieties that generate the largest tubers. Are you willing to share? I am willing to pay. I am located about 50 minutes southwest of Indiana, PA. What rabbits are you raising?

    Are they ready to breed?

When to breed usually depends upon the breed of rabbit. An easy "rule of thumb" is 6 months, however, it is not absolutely necessary to use that rule. I've attached an excerpt from the book, Rabbit Production, which addresses this.In my rabbitry, where NZ and Silver Fox are raised, I've had...

The New Safe Plants for Rabbits List

One way or read about foraging relativity safely is by harvesting from plants that are more Bush and tree like. Harvest from the plant growth 3 feet high and higher. Another option is to put on raised beds, 3 feet high and/or well fenced off and harvest from there. I have dandelion, carrot...

Can you tell me where you got your sunchoke variety that gets such large tubers? I’d love to have that size!

    Canning vs Dehydrating vs Freezing

I glass eggs. They are said to last this way up to 2 years.

advice needed on new born kits and doe in hot weather

To be clear, my does do not nurse “anytime.” Instead, like yours they nurse only once or twice per day. It’s just that if the nest is pulled, she then adjusts her nursing schedule to whatever schedule you set for her, still only nursing once or twice per day. I think pulling the biggest kits to...

    Kits are vanishing.

Your place sounds divine. i am south of you in Westmoreland County. My husband knows your area well. As a kid, his family had a camp in tionesta they visited yearly and often. He spent many idealic days floating down the Allegheny on inner tubes.

    Canning vs Dehydrating vs Freezing

I have been dehydrating for years, long before I started canning (which was in 2021). What machine are you using to store your eggs? I’ve started glassing eggs for long term storage (good up to 2 years).

advice needed on new born kits and doe in hot weather

Mom is quite eager to nurse them when I bring them to her. I usually get them to mom anywhere between 8 and 10 a.m., depending upon my schedule.

    Rabbits or not

I love on all of my meat buns, too. i try to save the life of the littests of each litter, kiss their heads, hug them, talk baby talk, etc., to everyone. The goal even for rabbits destined for the table is to give them a quality, happy and healthy life before dispatching.

Welcome to the Rabbit Talk forums. Like you, I started last year, as well. Also 2 trios, but in August. For dispatching, we tried the broomstick method and used it for a while, but the animals always showed severe bruising between the shoulder blades which indicates injury and suffering just...
