Tell me about chickens in the rabbitry. Pros? Cons?

Thank you for the hands on information. I have no interest in creating more work for myself and definitely do not want to have birds pooing all over my buns. No interest in double tiering the cages. I just built this new enclosure to get away from such a setup. Single tier puts all the rabbits...

Tell me about chickens in the rabbitry. Pros? Cons?

Did you mean to say as long as they are NOT in direct contact?

What’s wrong with his leg? Help.

If dislocated, the sooner the better to get it back before the soft tissue surrounding the joint reforms itself to support the dislocated position. I dislocated my thumbs often due to osteoarthritis and the way to fix, if my right thumb slipped, I pull it straight and hard with my left hand...

I see. This looks very similar to what I am considering. Am I correct in assuming once you have circulating water, you no longer need to rinse? Is peroxide added to the circulating water?

Tell me about chickens in the rabbitry. Pros? Cons?

Thank you. I am considering getting only 2 or 3 chickens (hens) at most. The rabbitry is 24x12.

Tell me about chickens in the rabbitry. Pros? Cons?

If you've ever house chickens with rabbits, tell me the pros and cons. In trying to decide if I should or should not. BTW, my rabbits are all in suspended cages, one tier, all now under one roof in what I call the rabbit barn. I am considering getting only 2 or 3 chickens (hens) at most. The...

I agree with you, on the ground is not a good option for a host of reasons. This winter I'm finally gong to have a place to start grown fodder indoors. Can you share your growing system with us?

    Rabbit Meat

Actually, while I freeze and then thaw and cook rabbit, I’ve not tried in my pressure cooker just yet. As I think about it, that sure would work nicely on days where I might not have planned as well. I will have to give it a try.

    Rabbits or not

Thank you for such a thorough answer. Would I be asking too much for photos? I am not fully visualizing the basket thing, purpose, etc. I would also like to see your cage setup.

    Rabbit Meat

I don’t think I have. I will try to do so over the weekend.

    What happened to these kits?

I think you made the right choice, especially culling mom. That rew baby looked miserable. its best not to bring anymore into the world just to suffer and to not be able to fulfill it’s purpose. Mom obviously was dominantly carrying and passing on some unhealthy genetics.

    Rabbit Meat

I have found rabbit responds best to any slow cooked method you might employ. Slow roasted at a low temp (225F) in the oven 2-4 hours depending upon bones, no bones, stuffed, rolled, etc.; slow cooked on a smoker grill at 160-180F for 2-3 hours while basting with butter and apple cider vinegar...

Taking doe to a different rabbitry for breeding

Thank you for your insightful story. I would definitely never leave a doe in with a strange buck without myself staying, witnessing and then taking her out when the deed was done. I'm just curious as to how receptive a doe would be after a car ride and in a strange rabbitry. I think I'll add...

Taking doe to a different rabbitry for breeding

Has anyone ever taken a doe to a buck living in a different rabbitry for breeding? I know there are health concerns such as viruses, but other than that, are there other considerations? I’m not as concerned about virus issues because all of the rabbits at the rabbitry I am considering...

How long after tattooing do you wait to sell your rabbits? Do you use balm on the ear, too?

I don’t tattoo any rabbit unless I am keeping it for my herd or if it has been sold. I usually tattoo the a day or two before the new owners pick up but that has more to do with my schedule than anything else. I do not use balm. I disinfect with alcohol before giv the tattoo and that’s it...
