    Mulching manure

I'm currently catching my solids on 1/4 inch hardware cloth which keeps the poop somewhat suspended and allows the urine to fall through. I am hoping this will keep it dry enough to skip the need for drying on a tarp or such. I will let you know!

    Breeding out a breed?

Thank you for your advice. Both bucks in question are from my NZ/Cali mix buck and doe I originally began with. The sire is a real sweetie. The buck that looks like NZ has the same sweet temperament. The one who looks like a Cali is sweet, too, but is also very evidently an alpha male in...

    Mulching manure

I'm assuming you are having to dry your droppings because they are landing on the ground, mixing with urine. Correct? My row-out cages are at this moment using that system. My breeder hutch has a system that is separating urine and feces to a degree, so I might be able to skip the drying step...

Feeding the Weakest of Litter w/photo

NP. Also, take note that you need to pull the nest box the day before and feed the littlest ones upon mom first so they get the most milk possible.

input please on this type floor? wood slats?

I have looked at that study. The rabbits in wire cages are stacked 4 cages high. The bamboo “cage” is single level. Based upon information I’ve read, rabbitries with even 2 levels of stacked cages run a higher risk of illness over one level rabbitries. So right off the bat, this study is tilted...

    Mulching manure

I’ve ordered an electric muncher/chipper due to come today. I’m so excited, I hope it works for this. The gas driven ones are just too big and bulky for me so I am hoping an electric one does the trick.

    Kit size/breed difference

It looks like the litter you’re concerned about has more kits, am I correct? What I always do in this instance is foster out kits from mom who has so many to mom who has less. For instance, a couple months ago I had a Silver Fox with 8 kits and a NZ/Cali cross mom with only 4. since the litter...

Rabbit sold has died. What happened?

I felt for her. She was emotionally devastated and I wanted to treat her as I would like to be treated. Sometimes a little investment can go a very long way, especially in terms of reputation.

Hello fellow keepers of bun buns.

Welcome. Where are you located? What would you like to know about rabbits?

Rabbit sold has died. What happened?

I’ve decided to offer her another kit at a discount. She has accepted the offer, but says she’d prefer paying full price, does not blame me. That was my greatest concern because the original was out of my care for over a month and thus I can’t see how that would be my fault. So many things could...

    Does urine affect garden poo?

I just don't like my rabbits living so close to their poo. It's a double decker breeder hutch, so unless I clean it out daily or even every other day, they are always very near their poo. As opposed to my growout hutch is single deck and the poo drops more 3 or more feet down from them. In the...

    Does urine affect garden poo?

I used to have one of those like you describe, but sold it. It was too big for me to use. I was looking at the smaller electric ones. What are your thoughts? DO you think if I just use it to mulch rabbit poo and hay/straw, it could handle the work?

    Lactation

I’ve read rabbits feed their young even as they are born. Just a side note. As a matter of course, I always put mom on her back and feed whomever the littlest is, as described, before the entire litter is fed. it’s easier to keep the little one healthy than it is to bring it back from a near...

Feeding the Weakest of Litter w/photo

I’ve tried hand feeding the littlest ones. I found it mostly ineffective. Then I stumbled upon this excellent approach, and with so many questions popping up about unfed babies, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned to be most effective: Because rabbits feed only once or twice a day, it is safe...

    Lactation

I’ve attached a photo of how I make sure the wee-est of my litters get fed. Your best chance to save wee ones is early intervention, as follows: because rabbits feed only once or twice a day, it is safe to keep nest out of mom’s cage and in a safe location within your home. At feeding time, but...

    Does urine affect garden poo?

@Olbunny I’ve been thinking about your mulching activity ever since you posted about it a couple of weeks ago. I’d like to follow suit. Are you mulching with one of the huge mulches or a smaller one?

8 week old Blue Silver Fox with floppy ears

Definitely not a standard silver fox. Standards are upright traditional rabbit ears for the silver fox breed. There are coat standards, too, that set the silver fox apart from any other breeed.in particular, the ability for the coat to stand perpend to the body when brushed from rump to nose. If...
