Keeping Very Young Kits 🐰 Cool

It sounds to me like you are taking sufficient precautions. If she shows signs of distress, you may have to intervene but given the limitations of your place, I think you are doing really well. Can Mama lie next to the ice pack at the end of the nest box? If so, she has what she needs to cool...

Weeping willow to fight coccidiosis in rabbits

I came across this site when looking for information in another thread. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/ecam/2019/2107231/ When I started with rabbits, coccidiosis spots showed up now and again in the livers of fryers. When I switched to natural feeding, this happened less and less. We have a...

    Diareha

This reminds me of a situation I had with my rabbits. They were meat mutts, all purchased from one source, and seemingly healthy. The buck was on the small side and eventually we bought a larger buck and a doe from another source. We put them in quarantine for a month and then in cages alongside...

rabbit dying because of mold in the food

Please, never feed anything with mold to your rabbits. It could kill them.

    Snake 🐍 Proofing Hutch / Cage ?

I'm sorry you feel that there is something wrong with us. Most of us have limited time to answer questions. In your case, wrapping the cage with hardware cloth -- which I suggested in a similar thread -- seemed to be adequate. And it was, wasn't it?

    Weened kits dying

Corid is sometimes used against coccidiosis in goats. https://gmsgoats.com/blogs/raising-dairy-goats/coccidia-prevention In the comments at the bottom of this write-up about treating coccidiosis in goats, I found this: "I lost 3 goats in less than a week. One was 4mos, her momma was 4 yrs old...

How much do you pay for feed? --per mods: NO POLITICS IN THIS THREAD.

Just a reminder, folks, to stick to the original topic of feed prices. This is not the place for political discussion. If you want access to the Politics, Religion and Controversy forum, you can make a request there.

    Weened kits dying

We need more information to even make a good guess. Age of rabbits, diet, housing, any symptoms like bloating or diarrhea -- and anything else you can think of that might be relevant.

    Kits leaving nest

Glad to hear your weather is cooler and that you've outsmarted the little escape artists!

    Kits leaving nest

Usually kits stay in the nest-box at least until their eyes open and they begin to explore. How deep is the box? They must be very hot to try to get out this soon.

I thought I put two does together, and they fought. Maybe they weren't two does? Maybe it was a buck and a doe?

You're not a moron, but you are new to rabbits and there is a fairly steep learning curve. 1. Does are very territorial. Unless they are sisters or mother and daughter that have been together from the start, they often fight. In small quarters where they cannot get away from each other, they...

    Kits leaving nest

Oh. that's not so good. Why don't they have a nest-box? You will need to make sure they cannot squeeze out through the wire and fall under the cage. Make sure as well that the access door is tight-fitting.

    Kits leaving nest

Some does are overprotective of their kits. With some you can remove the whole nest box while wearing a glove and examine the nest and kits away from the doe's cage. One of my first does was a fury when she had a new litter. Once the kits' eyes were open, she went back to being docile again. If...

    Kits leaving nest

If it's that hot and their nest is in a nest-box, let them decide for themselves during the day. The nest-box will keep them from going far. Check to make sure they feel warm to the touch and have full bellies -- I'm guessing they are wandering because they are uncomfortably hot together in...

White pus coming out of eyes w/ nose blood now

The "Day 9" nestbox clean-out is a good practice, but of course, eye infections can happen for other reasons. Hope you are able to get the Terramycin and that your rabbit's eye gets better soon.

White pus coming out of eyes w/ nose blood now

This was several years ago, but I was able to buy Terramycin from the US eBay site. That might have changed, but it's worth a try. A complete nest box clean out (using fresh bedding and reserving only the clean fur) on Day 9 helps to prevent this problem.

    Can Kits Have Teat Marks?

It's not so weird. Most male mammals have nipples, although not marsupials or horses. And human males have nipples too, after all. There's an old time expression "as useless as teats on a boar hog" for anything that doesn't seem to serve a purpose. I don't recommend you use it, however, as it...

    Kits are vanishing.

You're very welcome, Ted. We have 32 acres of old fields and second growth trees out back and we've had to deal with all those predators at one time or another.

Hello, Can someone please help me and tell me what my Rabbit has and what I can do to treat him?

It sounds to me as though your rabbit is paralyzed. The inflamed skin could be due to being unable to control his bladder and bowels. When was the last time you actually saw him hopping around in a normal way? Sometimes when a rabbit is startled, it will panic and fling itself against the cage...

    Kits are vanishing.

Ted, 1" x 2" inch wire will let far too many predators have access. Maybe you could wire 1/2 inch hardware cloth over the current wire. If you use J-feeders, fit them with rat-proof tops. I do think you should identify what kind of predator you are dealing with. Exclusion is by far the best...
