    Wire shelving cage...

Local dump finds to build hutches is perfect! Keeps stuff out of the landfill and saves tons of money on buying commercial hutches. Plus when it's old and worn out - even for bunny hutches - it can go back to the dump.

    Hi from oakfield maine

We had a couple meat rabbits before and they never did make it into the frying pan. Cute and fuzzy overwhelmed us. However, now we're doing excessively cute and fuzzy with angoras and a few of them have become meals. Once you get more than a few, it's easier since they're not all pets by that...

What caused your interests in rabbits?

The bunnies here appeared as an answer to the high cost of angora yarn. They provide amazing fiber for exquisite yarn and are some of the most cuddly 'livestock' on the planet. The bunny berries for the garden have saved us tons over the years by not having to buy imported fertilizers...

    Wire shelving cage...

So far I've not told them it's 'paradise' but the bunnies do like the ti leaves. It's one of their favorite treats and it grows well, especially near the bunny hutches since there's always 'bunny berries' falling on the ti roots. They will eat the hapuu fern (the big fronds in the picture) but...

    Wire shelving cage...

At our transfer stations, we can get old refrigerator racks so a lot of those get used in hutch building. They aren't used for flooring, though. We've had several broken legs by bunnies trying to run on the wire shelving and getting their feet and legs caught. The wire shelving does work well...

    New To Rabbits

As far as I can tell, temperament is genetic. It's one of the criteria we use when selecting breeding pairs and the bunnies are more friendly and easier to handle than when we started. If Fionn is a buck and good in all other respects, he'd be worth using as a herd sire for his temperament.

    Ear mites please help

We get a horse wormer gel which is Ivermectin. Just a dab behind their head or in their ears will fix ear mites as well as wool mites. You can also use Ivermectin drench, with that we just use a syringe without a needle and squirt it in their ear. Or, you can use an injectable version, but...

    AEW TLC Bunnies

Just out of curiosity, what's "AEW TLC" ?

    New To Rabbits

It will be interesting to see how they manage to become dinner when they're getting named and occasionally dressed up? Although perhaps those will be the breeders and the offspring will become the dinners? In any case, welcome to Rabbit Talk, it's one of the best rabbit sites available, IMHO.

Chopped hay, forage for rabbits fed along with pellets.

Maybe it's time to go back to the original problem of wasted hay and figure another method for saving it other than chopping it? We have rabbits who like to dig in their food dish which spills it. There's now a big ceramic tile under those food dishes and wastage is a lot less. Can the hay be...

    Trying to get started

FWIW, the cage size they list is "minimum" cage sizes, not "optimum" cage sizes. The buns here seem to prefer the taller hutch spaces. They seem happier when they can hop up on top of a box and they can stand up and look around in their areas. All the space sizes listed at the Michigan...

    Finally Blues! A few questions...

Are you sure the doe is blue? On the monitor here, she appears more chocolate than blue. Blue, and chocolate, too, for that matter, are both 'dilute' colors and require a double recessive in order for the color to appear. If the REW buck doesn't have the proper recessives, you'll not get more...

    Semi natural feeding (free choice)

When there's less than twenty rabbits here, we feed more forage than pellets. But, when there's more than two dozen rabbits and/or if things are busy at the time, it's a lot quicker to feed pellets. There's an automatic water system so we don't have to fuss with water bottles, that's helpful...

    Looking to learn!

They've got some insanely nice fluff on them! Love the shine on satins. Not as easy to spin as some fibers, but the end result is very worthwhile.

    Completely lost on colors

Great post, JudyMac! Very easy to understand and yet gives great information.

    Completely lost on colors

Yup, there is a Cinnamon breed of rabbit, but some breeds call the chocolate agouti color 'cinnamon'. English angoras use the term, although we also use 'chocolate agouti'. The English angoras here are also 'agouti' and not 'castor' although I'm pretty sure it's the same color.

    Probably not pregnant doe questions.

I've had a doe who built a nest after she had the kits. Another who built a nest two weeks early and then didn't have any at all. Generally, though, the ones who are gonna have a litter do rather lay about for the few days before. Perhaps since she's just laying about she will still have a...

What kind of BOSS and whole oats for nursing doe?

For oats, you can always give her a bit of rolled oats - regular Quaker oats that are unflavored. Doesn't have to be a lot. Same with the sunflower seeds, doesn't have to be a lot. Keep an eye on her condition, if she loses too much weight, then higher nutrition while she's feeding a litter.

When to breed a recovering rabbit?

There's loads of medical research on rabbits, and a quick search for 'rabbit & penicillin' may produce some medical texts. AFAIK (although I'm not a vet and don't even play one on TV) penicillin isn't going to keep a doe from being bred. If she's in condition then there shouldn't be a problem...

    What’s wrong with my buck?

Sometimes if we have a "shy" buck around here, I'll put the doe in with the buck next door to give the first buck the idea as well as hopefully make him wildly jealous. Before the teaser buck gets the job done, (or he has a different doe) the doe will be put in with the first buck that I want...
