Staring my adventure! Could use some help though

I don't know. I just had lots of trouble trying fodder with just water and this works better for me. I do sprout whole oats by rinsing several times a day, but I make sure it's fed by the 3rd day. Trying to grow any green I plant in dirt.maybe moisture more even. Maybe unsprouted seed is buried...

Staring my adventure! Could use some help though

I was having the same trouble. I started planting the seeds in trays of dirt. Grew fast, no mold. Cut with a scissors. Can cut and regrow several times Then shake out the roots and give to my quail. Your chickens might like them too.

    Any Tips?

I just put a layer on top, scratched them in a little. You can cover them with used coffee grounds. Also a good fertilizer. When I clean out the press I just add some water and water plants with it.

    Dead doe

No, Wisconsin. The quail both looked injured. They get a little nasty sometimes. No other rabbits are having problems so far. She wasn't one to chew on odd stuff before. Wonder if another pregnancy triggered that urge. Glad she gave me the 8 kits. Seem to be doing good, almost 8 weeks. Will have...

    Dead doe

Rough day. Found my 11 1/2 month old silver fox doe, dead, this morning. Went to the aviary and a quail hen dead. Then a dead 4 week old chick in the brooder box, dead. These animals seemed to thrive in our cold winter. Now a week of 40* and melting snow and problems. I opened up the doe to see...

    Funny kits

Yep! We spend hours watching our trio and their 16 kits playing and feeding in their yard. So much fun! I'm amazed by their little helicopter turns, pop up, spin around, run in another direction.

    New To Rabbits

Welcome to the adventure! Best advice I found is someone here said " every animal is different, every environment is different, every owner is different. Find what works for you and yours". What's working for me and my trio of silver fox is a colony. An insulated shelter with access to a...

    Ideas for winter water bowls?

My rabbits have an insulated shelter leading to a windowed shelter (where pellets and water are kept) and free access to a fenced yard with brush piles. Even on those days it dipped to -20* they chose to be out running and nibbling. We got 14" first week kits were coming out. I worried about...

    Colony observations

So interesting to just watch! Rabbit warren man has been telling us how rich a social life rabbits have ( if we let them) we had a dump of 14" of new snow the fist week kits were coming out of their nests. These little guys were trying to hop thru snow 3xs as deep as them. Along comes the buck...

    Feeding alternative diet to Pellets?

Yes I enjoy watching them. I have a small quail aviary that shares the rabbits yard. I think it's extra fun the birds often line up at their window watching the rabbits and the rabbits often sit watching the quail. Especially in the evening when the birds have some extra light on. (Quail TV)...

    Feeding alternative diet to Pellets?

Thanks for the feed back. I already opened the fence and reunited the buck and does. He sat and pouted, wasn't eating. Didn't even go into shelter we provided when snow turned to rain. Just sat looking across the yard. The does didn't seem happy either. Spent more time inside, not as much...

    Feeding alternative diet to Pellets?

Only 6 seeds? I read that too so asked at feed store. He laughed at anyone counting seeds.Think that depends on life style. Kind of like what an athlete can eat and what a couch potato can eat. Mine get a big handful each, everyday (more when it's really cold) and have for a long time. I also...

    Feeding alternative diet to Pellets?

It was a process. I started by giving sunflower seeds from my hand in their shelter. Then later sat by their door, fed from my hand then reached in their door and dropped more seeds there so they would go in for more. Now they know that seeing me coming up the path with flashlight and rattling a...

    Feeding alternative diet to Pellets?

They have a shelter. One end is insulated with den boxes inside. The other end is wired, covered with windows for winter. Free feed pellets and water are there. Small 8" door is opened in the morning to give free access to their yard.even in -20* they chose to be out running, nibbling on brush...

    Feeding alternative diet to Pellets?

We are in the north woods so don't know much about Texas plants. I dry leaves, grasses, herbs.. I tried drying branches. My rabbits much preferred them fresh cut, even in the dead of winter.so tree branches are stored on the tree. Easy! Just prune as needed. We feed basswood, mulberry, maple...

Need help from colony keepers. How to deal with winter litters?

Thanks to everyone who offered advice. Update. I did add even more insulation to their set up stuffed more hay, an old wool carpet pad under tarp, shoveled snow up sides. They had another litter of 9 just in time for the next deep freeze. This one even colder, think thermometer on back porch...

First time butchering yesterday. What to do with heads, ears, feet, tails, etc?

I have some heavy rubber strips recycled from tank treads (50 years ago) that lay in my garden rows. I roll them back and bury meat scraps, fish guts etc under there at least a foot or more deep. Anything else and they get dug up and strewn around by fox, raccoon, weasels..... Things I don't...

    Fruit flies and Fodder

You can make a good fruit fly trap with a little wine in a glass. Stretch plastic wrap over the top, with the tip of a knife punch some holes. I used this in the root cellar, was amazed how much I caught
