    Rabbit names

Anything from coat colors to other animals with those color names to versions of where they came from , ... blauw (blue otter), dal (dalmation), cas (castor), harli (harlequin). Ploem (adaptation of sellers name), and so on. Pretty much just keep notes when you come across names that sound...

    Bad tempered buck

Mostly kits would copy their dam for behaviour, but i have heard horsebreeders talk about foals having quirks that came from the sire that the foal never met. So yes it could pass on to the kits.

    Just wanted to share

Those kits are what 3-4 weeks old? Box is fine with the winter cold coming/already here, but between numbers and age they'll be fine adventuring outside it. New place means new routine and such, i wouldn't do a lot with them as yet, but being able to at least touch / stroke to check...

    Vorpal rabbit

Had one nippy doe, she didn't catch and on butchering was fat. From what i understand, rabbits are territorial about their dens, rest less so. I do keep mothers with daughters untill i need daughters for the pot or rebreed mom, but that has more to do with room then anything else. I also know...

    Welp

My rabbits are around 1700grams (dwarf rex), feed me just fine, easy size to handle, fits the pens i have room for, my cookingpot and the freezer. I can also still do this with this size animal when i'm 80+.

    Rabbits Grooming Question

I see "overgrooming" other animals in horses with itch for instance. So first check for parasites or skin problems.

My rabbits' eating her own droppings-

Simply put eating the cecotropes is the rabbits version of chewing cud, just like the well known ruminants like cows, goats and sheep do.

    Rabbit genital lump/sorehocks/broken leg/foot.

Needles get dull quick and being poked with a dull needle hurts. Better just replace needles often and do less skin damage along with less protest from the bunny.

    Rabbit genital lump/sorehocks/broken leg/foot.

If she can't help but pee on herself due to the lump on her vulva this needs to be fixable quickly, or the damage to the skin that urine scald will/has caused will get worse. I don't know how things are vet knowledge on bunnies wise over there, but here it is fairly limited unless you go to a...

    Sexing 17 day old kits

I don't even try until they are 8 weeks or so. 8-10 weeks is when i at least want the bucks away from the doe. It is tricky when they are that young and since they need to still be with mom and can't breed yet anyway there is no reason for me to guess earlier (because guessing is pretty much...

    10-day old kits-yellow messy poop?

In some animals they get the runs from overeating. Could it be they drink to much milk?

Buck Fertility Boost - What to feed?

Protein / essential aminoacids are needed for good sperm. Other than that, minerals, with sheep and goats copper is an important one for this. What pellet do you feed and how is it stored? Oxcygen i.e. air will break down vitamins in the feed. But yes the doe is the main component in how many...

What caused your interests in rabbits?

Quiet meatsource and also produces good vegetable garden fertilizer. Chickens are more for eggs due to room needed for growing out chicks and the feed cost being omnivores. Original plan was to provide some of that diet via slaughterwaste from the rabbits, but no more rented land for...

    Trying to get started

Rabbits handle cold way better than heat, so pick a cool place in summer to house them. And as mentioned above, cages can be long, but no deeper than your hands/arms can comfortably reach. For me that means 60cm or 2 feet is the max. and at that max depth you need close to that in height as...

Experiment Started! (just how good are rabbit coco pebbles)

I know rabbit urine more as a insecticide then fertilizer. Although i find that adding bunny poo to soil around plants that have pest problems makes the plant less attractive / more resilliant and the pest pressure drops even to almost nothing. I hear more people have such results although not...

Chopped hay, forage for rabbits fed along with pellets.

Here those things are offered as lawnornaments on our version of craigslist. It is an old agricultural tool so people cleaning up grandpa's barn sell them every so often.

    Sprayed legs?

Could be a habit because of the wire i.e uneven floor. How does she get around on a solid nonslip floor like in a big exercise pen?

    Canned Rabbit

If you are worried about safety, just can single ingredients and add them together maybe along with some fresh stuff so it needs about 30min. simmer to come together. On the remote chance there was botulism in there it is then certainly dead (that needs about 15min) and thus safe to eat. I...

    Breeding challenges

She is a proven doe and checking her vent showed her very much fertile, so from this example it seems so. Timing is a bit off for me, but i'll work around it if i have to. Learning what your rabbits try to tell you and working with them makes life easier overall.

    Breeding challenges

If a doe in the bucks cage picks a fight it is usually in the first 15 minutes max. I do leave does in longer sometimes, but only if they don't fight or race round the walls. Breeding can be trickier this time of the year, although i bred a doe about 10 days ago because she was showing nesting...
