um??? pls read i’m very confused right now

I doubt many parasites survive being dried with hay, and different to bigger animals rabbits wouldn't eat a crispy dry slug, or an empty shell. So I still think anything of this in hay isn't a real issue for rabbits. I wasn't, and I'd rather be still not aware about all those parasits out there...

    Rabbit genital lump/sorehocks/broken leg/foot.

After a butt bath, does she keep getting urine soaked? Not sure if the swelling or whatever it is can be a result of that. Good luck.

    Hi from oakfield maine

About the water crocks - I put 12V/10W silicon heating tabs under them, and wire them to an adjustable power supply, here most of the winter adjusting them to 2-3W is enough. I sandwiched them between wood and aluminium sheet metal fr durability, gluing them directly to crocks with smoth bottom...

Buck Fertility Boost - What to feed?

I think litter size depends mostly on the doe. I mean, if there are 1 million sperm cells, or 1.5 million - there are enough anyway to fertilize the 3-14 eggs the doe ovulates. I would rather adress the does, thinking about lighting, their readyness cycle, getting her in mood, multiple...

Experiment Started! (just how good are rabbit coco pebbles)

That actually is a useful experiment :) I use bunny berries in my potting soil, I used my does poop this year which let my buck and his spayed cuddlebun discover their interest for gardening :D

    Nest falling apart…

You can also put cardboard in it as floor, easy to replace when soiled.

    Suddenly Swollen Lips! Any Ideas?

I'm sorry, hope that was the end of it, that it was an individual issue... Myxo doesn't kill that fast, in my experience. There's still RHD out there which does kill at that pace, no experience with that, if there could be any symptoms like that. Good luck. That Myxo outbreak I had killed 14...

    Minimally seasoned rabbit recipe

I sometimes just fry the legs in a pan with a little salt and pepper. Most times I put it in the pressure cooker for 10 minutes, shred/cut it and use it for Chili, Szegediner Goulash, Lasagne, Rabbit Sweet-Sour etc.

    Suddenly Swollen Lips! Any Ideas?

Although it could be an insect bite or something else rather harmless, I would quarantine her thoroughly (incl. washing hands, changing cloths, tending to her last...) right away, just in case it's contagious. I had an Myxo outbreak 10 years ago, and I'm a bit nervous since then, first things I...

    Raise Meat Rabbits

if you have access to chives, garlic chives etc., that could be a preventative, after micheals4gardens did some experiments I feed all excess chives I have. If you have regular access to other allium plant greens I would introduce it slowly and only as an addition to their diet, and keep an eye...

    Sprayed legs?

If she gets around, and you're just breeding for meat with no intention to keep (or worse - give away) any offspring, I would give her a go and see how she does.

    Vulva colors?

I don't think it's such an exact science, lots of things comming into play like lighting, social stuff, temperatures etc. I never saw much difference anyhow - I go by behaviour. My buck is upstairs in the front yard, when a doe lounges at the gate at the top of the stairs it's the perfect time...

Keeping kits warm. Anyone else have this problem?

I closed use wooden nest boxes, with just one opening, in winter I put a heating element (12V/10W silicon heating pad connected to an adjustable power supply) under one back corner of the box, appr. 3-5W do the job nicely with the floor being appr. 2cm boards. I also stuff some hay in the...

Need Advice -kits born outside the box.

Sometimes things just go wrong, had a kit get stuck behind the nestbox, one got out and into a rat trap, and the trap was there because a rat killed 5 out of 6 in a litter once. Then there was the occasional runt that didn't make it, but overall I had not many losses. Imo you can't really plan...

Need Advice -kits born outside the box.

Hm, my breeding does have 1-2 (rarely 3) litters per year, and remain active up to 5-6 years, Fury even had her last litter at 7. Litter sizes got smaller with age, but I rather have smaller, but more litters. I'm sure that depends on lines, mine are just random mutts.

Need Advice -kits born outside the box.

Time tells. After some iterations over 11 years I ended up keeping at least 2 breeding does - because there always can happen something, and two retired ones, all living together now. Plus my buck and his spayed cuddlebun. No single rabbits (maybe an overcompensation since I'm single), that's...

    Shhhh Rabbits

Hm, noise doesn't bother my rabbits, nothing that is loud is dangerous. Most don't really like visitors, but that varies from person to person, that's quite interesting.

About that age thing, I have to seperate males and femals at about 12 weeks, that's one thing to be very cautious about, check genders several times, every week. Misgendering is one of the most common mistakes breeders - new and experienced ones - make. Redundancy helps, I'm lucky to have 2...

So, you're planning to breed for meat? Would your granddaughter be involved with that (definitly would be a great project if she's into that). Getting rabbits with one colour, that will only produce one colour, is a great move, when all the kits look alike it's way less likely to get attached...

Hi :) What's the weight of your rabbits, adult and offspring? It's quite a challenge to get rabbits to a butcher weight of 10lbs in 10 weeks, can be done with the right rabbits, right feed (depending on what your rabbits can make good use of), environment and setup. At least I've heard that :D...
