    Sad About City Code

Wow, going to change the rules sounds pretty ambitious, but I guess somebody has to do it :) Bucks are great, but you'll have to keep them seperatly, they don't get along, which isn't much of an issue if you didn't plan to keep rabbits together (my buck and his spayed cuddlebun are my two free...

    Sad About City Code

That's one thing about the US I don't really understand, all those levels of rules and laws, from federal, to zoning, down to HOAs, encrouching on so many aspects of life. What stumps me is when people boast about how "free" they think they are in the US without realising that it doesn't look...

Keeping them hydrated during the frozen months?

10 years later, my solution to this problem is different. Now I use stainless steel dog water bowls, the tip proof kind , and a 12V10W silicone heating pad under them, hooked up to an 3A adjustable power supply. Now we have about -6°C during the night, 8V, which results about 3W per dish is...

6 week old tries to bite me.

Hm, I have two lines of mutts, one does bite when stressed. Not me intentionally, it's a stress relieve action, and I do not hold a grudge about when they sometimes got me - never broke skin or so. But I have a dedicated, by now pretty torn up winter jacket for handling them. Since my keepers...

    Skinny conti cross

That rabbit on the picture? Only 3.2kg? At 10 months for a big breed that really doesn't sound like much. One thing I noticed with my mixes is that there sometimes are rather huge variations within one litter. Butchered the last two doelings from last year, about 5 months, one was small but...

Solid spherical growths on buck’s liver

I would eat the meat, but discard the liver, and other organs. Not because I would think there's any danger if cooked, but because it just doesn't feel right.

Is there rigor after thawing when the meat was frozen fresh?

Well, that'll be interesting then. I just did let them cool down, and froze them. I'll tell my experience when cooking them, but that's going to be next year. I mostly do stuff like Lasagne, Chili Con Carne, Szegediner Goulash etc. anyway, so it shouldn't be too bad.

    Tiny bit of christmas spirit..

There's a small, about half a meter, fir tree that sprouted next to a wall of the shop floor I work at, just a few meters from the corridor windows everyone passes going from one hall to the other. There have been quite some troubles lately, and mood has been down and cranky for quite some time...

Disposing of non-edible remains...in the city

Here I can dump any animal remains at the municipal ?access yard?( the place where the town has their cars, workshops, special waste collection etc. etc.), there are refridgerated bins there, accessable 24/7. Only used it once to dispose of a fox I shot in my hutch. I guess ways to deal with...

    Skinny conti cross

Yeah, doesn't look skinny at all. :) When my herd buck was a half checkered giant the kits used to first grow in lengh, build up bones, and then start to fill out.

Is there rigor after thawing when the meat was frozen fresh?

I would like to simplyfie things, and I didn't notice much difference in texture with what I did until now, letting them sit in salty water for appr. 3 days in the fridge. Last year something got me destracted, lost count of the days and eventually froze them after 5 days, but they were spoiled...

    Sore hocks!

One reason can be hard floors, like tile , concrete, PVC. Even some carpets, that are kind of abrasive. After my herd buck and free roam house bunny Herr Hase developed sore hocks I covered the rooms my buck had access to with corrugated cardboard for 3 months and fenced off the asphalt in the...

    Did I discover something new?

My last iteration on rabbit hutch floors are wooden slats, with ca. 13mm gaps that widen downwards. This helps cleaning, most stuff falls through when I pull the wasted hay out. What gets stuck can be raked out with a sturdy wire hook. This time I made sure that the slats rest on crossbeams at...

    Rabbit names

I'm so bad with giving names, it sometimes takes years. I go by character too, or other things... Like stereotypes linked with names. Red, Dotty, Dicker (fatty) well, that's their appearance. My first buck had a lot of NZ blood in him which made him look much more stocky than my other rabbits...

    Hello everyone!

Welcome. :) .had to look up where this place is, and still I'm not sure what kind of climate you're dealing with, now.

    cage height from ground

My reason for elevating the hutches to almost hip level is ease of maintanance, no crawling around on the floor or working bent over. Also, the floors are higher than my wheelbarrow which makes cleaning the hutches out way more easy. And there is the very slight possibility of floods, Predator...

If...if you go on vacation, who takes care of your rabbits?

Well, not so much vacations but family matters, emergencies etc. I pay a teen in my road to do the chores when I'm away, she took over when her sister grew out of it. Bigger family, so there's always someone to help, and they have rabbits too. Then there is another breeder in my road that I...

    She was pregnant!

No, you don't weight them now, that's not a priority. First, let the doe do her thing, when she' done check the nest, remove and replace soiled, wet bedding, make sure the kits (? kit?) is well covered with fur. Then give the doe lots of food and privacy. Is there just the one kit? Where are...

    Vorpal rabbit

I would say, good appetite. There isn't much that would render rabbit meat unsuitable for human consumption, and you cook it anyway. Seems she was overly hormonal, which can be a sign for a health issue (like, one of my does went crazy and completly exhausted herself building tunnels, my...

Something Is Off w/ My Pet Rabbit.

It would be better to start your own thread in "Rabbit Feeding, Supplements & Nutrition" with that question, here, in a completly different topic noone will see it :).
