    Swollen breasts

I would first check if there is any sign of inflamation or so to be sure it's not caused by mastitis. If everything is ok and the 3 kits are well fed, fostering one might be worth a try.

    Malnurished rabbit problem????

If you did change their diet, it might need some time for them to gear up. Offering lots of hay and doing other changes gradually always is a good idea. Fresh forage, grass etc. is the most natural feed possible, that's what they evolved for. Only thing is, wild rabbits were smaller and their...

When should I place a nest box?

About a week early. When they start digging tunnels in the garden. They usually don't use closed style nestboxes as litterbox when the roof is too low to sit up.

Talk to me about Mega Colon...

To me, those bunny berries look rather normal, not longish, really oversized, etc. . , even small compared to what my nursing does produce. If she has a healthy appetite, I wouldn't expect something much different. That grid doesn't look that wide anyway, so I wouldn't even expect all poops to...

Lost nursing doe due to blockage

Update :) The kits are 5 weeks now, fed them the last time this evening. All 8 remaning are well. I weaned one a week ago because it had digestion issues, worked out well. I already miss feeding the kits, it's just sooo cute, when I didn't lock them away they climed all over me while feeding...

    Lethargic mama and wet kits

I would clean up the nest, asap, a rather thick layer of soft hay as base, forming the nest, and whatever fur can be salvaged on top/sides. Usually the nest doesn't get that wet from the kits pee alone, unless maybe if the bottom layer is thin and the floor clogged watertight. How does the does...

    Not new, but returning!

Well. for now I'll just retire to my basement to finish that fusion reactor for that intergalactic spaceship in my yard, then I'll have plenty of time studying that picture on my way to Alpha Centauri :D

    Breeding for color

That's quite a can of worms :D. Some colours are erecessive, like REW, some recessive like agouti vs. black. [Edit: got that wrong the first time, REW is not dominant] Then there are other factors, I bred two agouti rabbits - and got quite a diverse litter. Both carried black (recessive), and...

Lost nursing doe due to blockage

Well, update. 8 left, went too smoothly for a week, then one by one 3 got diarrhia, bloat and died, 2 more had that troubles but got over it with simethicone, extra water, a little salt, - and the Fibreplex once I had it - and those two are as healthy as the others now. Either it was coincidence...

    Filthy %^&*^#$(* Scrub Jays

Hm, would closed nestboxes help? I don't know how brazen that birds are, if they would get into something close enough resembling a tunnel with no escape route for them, even if they could make it into the cages. Lore says that to keep crows away, kill one, and leave it well visible where you...

Lost nursing doe due to blockage

Thanks, I'll give it a shot, but earliest delivery is Wednesday. A second one is struggling, cleaned it up (flies are a real danger this year), and I'm giving water regularily, now and then with simethicon and a tiny bit of salt.

Torts and stuff from 2 Agoutis, what have I got there?

Lets see if I got it :) If I want oranges and agoutis in the future with this buck I would need to keep an orange doe, with some luck it could carry black and I could get some torts and even blacks thrown in too. If I keep a tort, I would get blacks, agoutis, oranges and torts in about the...

Lost nursing doe due to blockage

Well, 10 left, one died today after detoriating for about 24h, first sign was that it took 1/3 less milk then the others, didn't want any at the next, got bloated and had a little diarrhia. They are 20 days old now, and I'm not increasing their milk ration any more, I'm at about 8-9ml now, or...

    Second opinion please

Although they seem to need litle air, I would expect that it gets pretty stuffy in there pretty quick between two layers of skin. As lower lining, ok, but I wouldn't enclose them with it. Towels are easier to clean though.

    Second opinion please

Or you can take out the two fattest kits for one feeding, 2 others the next day. Missing a feeding wont hurt them but reduced competition gives the little one a better chance. Keep the kits warm in a well insulated nest, like a bucket lined with folded towels, or so. And somewhere where they...

    Putting rabbits outside

What nestbox design do you use? Mine are side entrance, closed ones that are permanently in the hutches, the kits can get easy in and out once mobile. If you use one with top entrance you can just turn it on its side and make a nest with hay. They'll return there for nursing and sleeping in a...

cuniculi head tilt- cant get panacur

My Ruth, 5yo, that is due any moment dug about 1m of tunnel in the garden, and started several others during the last weeks that I had to fill up because of bad location. Normal behaviour, they build nest tunnels when pregnant. Depending on how their instincts are still there they can dig...

Lost nursing doe due to blockage

Ok, thanks for that info, so it is safe to give them more. Now they try to swallow the syringe whole when it's empty. Will increase the amount gradually til they explode :D. It's incredible how fast they grow and develope, when I started they had just opened their eyes, teetering around on...

Lost nursing doe due to blockage

Kits are doing great :). By now I feed 3ml 3 times a day, I think that's a good amount. They would gobble down more, but since this is enough for them to thrive I'm not risking filling them up to the brim. They really got the hang of it by now, and feeding all of them takes appr. half an hour...
