    Hello

We have Hulstlanders here in the UK, they are a breed from the Netherlands, and have the Netherland Dwarf (the version they have there, which is called 'Pool' = Polish, but not related to the American Polish breed) in their ancestry. They are a blue-eyed white breed. I don't think there are any...

    Hello

I don't think they are that closely related but the Holicer is smaller, and to my knowledge should be lighter in colour than the Vienna. Yes - Germany in particular. This website showcases all the German breeds and it's not hard to see the preferred posing. They also breed for very thickly...

    Hello

It is V, and semi-dominant, meaning one copy produces a rabbit with white marks, and two copies - vv - makes a BEW. The white marks are extremely variable and can be a white toenail, a white foot, snip or blaze, right through to something resembling a Dutch. The EN gene is 'English spotting'...

    Hello

There is a breed called the Vienna in Europe - it's a fairly old breed and found in most European countries, but to my knowledge there are none in the USA. It comes in five colours - Grey (agouti), Opal, Black, Blue, and blue-eyed White, with the Blue being the most popular. The White Vienna...

I have a lot of questions

Well they can reabsorb them, up til around the 21st day of gestation. Maybe he was thinking the stress of going to the vets and the ultrasound would be enough to trigger that? But then, vets don't get much training at all on rabbits; much better to ask advice from experienced breeders ;)

    Handling babies

There is also 'Puppy Culture' early neurological stimulation [ENS] which is being extended to other species. Many years ago I read that a study in the 1960s identified that Siamese cat kittens which were handled for a brief period every day from birth grew up more explorative, confident and...

    What color is this kit?

Not necessarily. I've bred Dutch on and off for decades, and over the years I've had several unplanned litters - usually a very horny Dutch buck managing to get to one of my other breeds! In almost every litter there have been one or three kits with no discernible white pattern.

    Breeds that produce peanuts?

Most probably yes. Anything with the Dwarf gene will.

    Clarifying Colours

Just to add, I think Kaitxx may be in the UK, as I am - they are just called Harlequin and Magpie here, no Japanese. Mini Lion Lops are an official recognised breed here in UK, they've been around for a decade or two. I know that's not the case in the USA where they're not accepted.

    "Fixing" Rabbits

I guess I'm lucky, there a vet about 20 miles away that charges £50 for a buck and £75 for a doe*. I had three bucks neutered at 14 weeks old a few months ago (as soon as the nuts dropped) and they were absolutely fine and bounced back within hours. I think this practice is very experienced...

Calling all color gurus for STS, American Chinchilla, Silver, Silver Fox, Sable, Sable Chinchilla, and anyone familiar with both Es & si genes.

We do have breeders of Argente de Champagnes in the UK, so you might be able to source stock from them? Quite a few are from European import lines. Have you contacted the National or any of the regional Argente clubs?

    Genotype of light steel?

It certainly can. aa E(s)_ appears self black. A_ E(s)E(s) appears self black ("supersteel") (and by logic, aa E(s)E(s) will, too). A_ E(s)e also appears self black. That's one thing which can't hide steel. If you're looking to breed out Steel, keep the agoutis.

    Genotype of light steel?

They are considered the same breed in Europe, and do compete with other colours (and win!), but I have noticed Europe seems a little less fussy about the Harlequin pattern on them than we are. Their Dutch breed standard differs from ours (UK breed standard is more or less the same as USA since...

    Update On Rabbit Family

It's risk as well, you'd have to find a vet that not only will do neutering, but is fairly competent and experienced. The more they do, the better they become. I'm lucky that here in the UK there are plenty of vets that will do and can do. I had three bucks castrated last week and they sailed...

    Genotype of light steel?

Yes they are both A_B_C_D_Es_ Why two shades occur I don't know, but it's considered to be modifiers. This is the same in any breed which has Steel. The exception is our UK Flemish Giant which is 'dark steel' but in fact is not steel at all, It was found to be a heavily modified agouti with a...

    Update On Rabbit Family

By and large, the only birth control for rabbits is separate caging. You may be lucky enough to find a vet that will castrate the boys though, but bear in mind they can still be fertile 4-6 weeks afterwards. Spaying a female is a more invasive procedure and consequently more expensive/risky.

    Genotype of light steel?

I think you have the White Ear gene here, causing roaning on the body, plus also possibly Vienna giving the extra white on the head.

    Genotype of light steel?

STS isn't recognised in any breed under the BRC. Two shades of steel occur in steel breeding - one is like Agouti (Chestnut) without the ear lacing, nostrils, belly etc. This is light steel. Then there is Dark Steel which is much more of a dense black with tipping. The reason for the two shades...

    Ivermectin usage

I get the liquid here in the UK. I put the drops on the skin inside the ear as they are absorbed faster that way.

    Ivermectin usage

Rough Collies (and some other breeds of dog) have a particular gene which permits some medications to cross the blood/brain barrier, hence ivermectin is toxic to them, the MDR1 gene which can now be tested for.
