Can rabbits survive 40 degree Fahrenheit weather?

We had -47 * with windchill this year. Even the new litter of kits did fine. Good, dry shelter, block the wind.

    Check Me Out!

I'm going to go with one layer of cages, poop hits the ground. I don't have the time nor the desire to spray or empty trays (or the roof of the bottom cages) on a continuous basis. Just feeding, watering and cleaning a couple cages quickly can take me 30 minutes before work. I will do 2 long...

    Check Me Out!

I like that idea. I'm in favor of something similar. I want the cages off the ground. I am also a short person. So while I have a few stacked cages, I have to milk crate it. I definitely want the cages a couple feet off the ground. I want the cleaning process to be more cohesive, more smooth...

    Check Me Out!

Thank you! I will post photos when I'm done. I haven't drafted the final set up out yet. Because I used rewired dog crates I will have the XL (condos I call them) for the mommas, the L for others. Two grow out pens. I will remeasure the area and order the supplies next month after the snow...

    Greetings from Montana

Hi! Welcome to the forum! I don't raise Silver Fox - but I do live in Montana! I actually raise New Zealand and New Zealand/satin crosses. Although I have a trio of Rex as well. The people here are so knowledgeable! I learn something new every day. Have fun!

    Oreo litter

And the 2 broken. In person the kit looks broken black. Bit not a deep black. In the photo it looks more brown.

    Oreo litter

I have 2 from Oreo's litter that look a lot like their dad. Their colour seemed off under the canopy. So we moved to the covered patio. I might just dig out my actual camera.

    Babies!!!

My NZ Chocolate Truffle had 12 also. I fostered 2 out. I lost 1 of the fostered and 1 at the mum's. I still consider 8 a win. I believe it was Alaskan Satin who stated she culled over 10 or she ended up losing more in the long run. I'm glad all of the others are doing well!

    Question about Charlies

Not all Charlies have megacolon issues. I have heard that some do. I believe it was first discovered in the English spotted rabbit. Some are born with megacolon (genetics) ( around 25%) while other rabbits acquired it. I bought a Charlie Satin. so yes, some people sell them. I bred my satin to...

    Babies!!!

Don't try to force her to feed. She can stop and go while having her litter- especially big litters. So yes, she could hold for hours. Many rabbits don't feed their kits for hours-even up to 24 I've heard as the milk does not always come in right away.

    Too cold for babies?

Sounds like a good mix. I hope it works out for you.

    Too cold for babies?

What breed of rabbits are they? Why do you think they died? From the heat?

    @#$&@$!! RATS!!! Rat proofing project.

So sorry to hear of your loss! I never knew rats would kill kits before I came to this forum. Looking forward to learning and seeing your progress.

    Oreo litter

It was obviously mine! I was buying eggs from Tiffany when I saw him. He looked like my siamese cat -Captain Jack Sparrow. Now 50 rabbits later.... CC is always so serious looking. He's a sweet boy! His son Ruby is a lot like him - except even more mischievous. But sweet and loving.... so good...

    New Member, couple questions.

Hi, Welcome to the forum! I agree with eco2pia . Cull. Save time and money and find a new doe. Are you running a particular breed?

    Oreo litter

They are both pedigreed New Zealand. But CC,the buck, is not a recognized colour. Most people seem to cull them as it is not ARBA SOP. The mum is a broken Black.
