Tell Me About Your Genetic Charlie Rabbits Habits

I am trying to determine the "normals" for a genetic charlie (too white) and the best way to help them cope with their health issues. My experience with charlies is a whopping three rabbits, so I thought I'd tap into the RT metamind for more information. I have had a NZR charlie doe (Chili), a...

question about feeding pumpkin to rabbits

My rabbits are less than thrilled with raw pumpkin but love the cooked version. They also love cooked spaghetti squash!! They ate every single bit of flesh and rind.

    meat mutts on natural feed

Congratulations on your bigger rabbits!! It's always great to see a rabbitry goal reached!! IMO, I'd still keep the grow outs from this year, despite the varying factors. Keep a journal of their growth (including season, weather, food) so you can compare it to your next generation. You may have...

This made me laugh til I cried. Thank you!

What size breeding cage? Is a 24x24 sufficient?

My NZR bucks enjoy a 30x30 to stretch out--however my arms are not 30" long, so I have my cages made 24x36 with a BIG door on the front. Does and their litters get a 24x42 and growout is a 24x49 (it can be divided into a double 24x24 with a wire separator).

How late is too late for first breeding?

Age doesn't seem to affect the ability to have litters--were this true, the 2 year old virgin rabbit I have should have been kitless forever, but has kindled me over 35 kits in the last two years, and is due again this weekend. Fertility can be affected by how fat she is and general health...

    Dispatch questions

One issue I've had with my wringer is bending from the pulls. I've used it for over a year now and the notch plate noticably has bent to the point where I have to rebend it upward after five or six rabbits. I don't like broomsticking since for me it left a LOT more bruising than the wringer has...

    Back from vacation!

Hello everyone!! I went on vacation recently--I took my first Caribbean cruise ever on Carnival. It was lovely! My friend Alex and I drove to Charleston, SC to catch the boat, dropping off a trio of NZRs to Marinea along the way. The cruise was lovely--and not what I thought? I loved how ocean...

    Croupy cough/Sneeze?

One of my young NZR bucks has a barking cough/sneeze, like the sound my son makes when he has croup. It may be related to the grass hay I've been feeding, and it it were P. then he'd be dead by now since he's had this sneeze/cough for at least 8 weeks (over the course of summer). He lives...

    "Hot litter"

Afternoon!!! I lined the box lightly with straw and gave the does options to layer in hay as they like, but most of the time the kits were piled on top of the straw. If you pull them into air conditioning be sure they have fur to get into to stay "the right temp".

    Condensed goats milk?

I have yet to find condensed goat milk in my area at any store, but I use regular goat milk and the kits seem to do fine with it. I froze the remainder of unused milk in ice cube trays for later use.
