2 of my new born rabbits ear were cut off !!!

My favorite Mini Rex buck is missing half of his left ear. His mother was just a bit over enthusiastic. He can't be shown, but he produces beautiful kits. He passes along good genetics, even if he himself cannot be evaluated at the shows.

    Navajo-Angora Goat kid

That's why its so nice to be able to pasture some goats and sheep together. They will clear everything as they naturally gravitate towards different food sources. The tricky thing about the desert is that we carefully plan pastures around the monsoons and the rain that brings. So late summer is...

    Navajo-Angora Goat kid

@MuddyFarms Yes, Churro are some beautiful sheep, and amazing. Horns being essential to survive with mountain lines, bobcats, coyotes, etc. Very very little lanolin. The fiber is courser than your normal wool breed, but has a very long staple. If you've ever felt a Navajo blanket, those are...

    Navajo-Angora Goat kid

@MuddyFarms That was the reason I went to the Navajo-Angora vs just the standard commerical type Angora. I wanted a breed that was most suitably adapted to our bit of rough and tumble climate. When it's 110 degrees out, any little bit helps, so if a clean face allows better heat exchange, great...

Pic update and harlequin & size question

Beautiful buns @Cosima I think breeding the doe to a larger buck is always a bit risky. If she has a large litter, then it can go well, but if she only has 2 or 3 they can get too large for the birth canal and then you could lose them, and her. I honestly don't know the genetics of the...

    Canned rabbit

Amazing! I've never canned meat, but I'd like to try. Do you have a recipe or procedure you'd be willing to share?

2 of my new born rabbits ear were cut off !!!

@Hamzasz It's very possible the mother was just over enthusiastic in her cleaning, or she bit down a bit too hard as they were born. Without hands mother does use their teeth to help birth. Between that and actually cleaning them from afterbirth the over enthusiastic doe can sometimes...

    English Angora babies - VIDEO

With Netherland Dwarfs you do tend to get much smaller litters, I believe. My daughter's Mini Rex are usually litters of 4, with 6 being a bigger litter. Typically @MuddyFarms litters are 7 to 9, so yup, she's on the big end. I had a Satin Angora kindle 15 last year in April, but that was way...

    English Angora babies - VIDEO

I've just had my largest English Angora litter ever. Pointed White doe with a REW buck out of Pointed Whites. There's going to be a lot of white fluff now. 12 babies. First time mom and first time dad.

    Navajo-Angora Goat kid

Navajo-Angora goats are just about as rare as can be at this point. They no longer have a breed registry and I know of only myself and a handful of other people that are not of the Navajo Nation that raise them. About 60 years ago there were thousands of them, but after the Hoover Dam was...

    Feeding dry leaves

Here we have primarily Chihuahua pine. Its a smallish cone but plentiful. A young lady who just bought a rabbit and lives in the mountains above San Diego was talking about football sized pine cones. I have to say I have zero experience with fir cones.

    A complimentary first cross breed?

French are gentle giants, so I agree the disposition, depending on the rabbit, could be improved. Shame on me for not seeing that you were in France. It is very possible the pic you attached is an appropriate French Lop under the breed standard for your area. Its just it's not what an ideal...

    Feeding dry leaves

We are always very dry here, so luckily I don't have to worry about mold or fungus. I would recommend late fall just as they drop, that way you will collect the majority of the seeds. As the cones dry thats when they release the seeds.

    Navajo-Angora Goat kid

This little guy was born yesterday on our ranch. My first baby goat ever! I'm pretty much smitten in every way.

    Feeding dry leaves

Our rabbits love pine cones as chew toys, and it doubles as a great stray wool collector after they've chewed them down to nubs. I don't find that they actually eat them though, more of a chew up kind of toy, as we find the discarded pieces under the cages. I'm guessing though that they are...

    Looking back over the year

I think that many of us food source raisers saw with horror and acceptance when the pandemic first hit in 2020 that the majority of people didn't have a clue about their food, where it came from, how to get it if the grocery store didn't have it, etc. For a while we saw an uptick in those...
