Post pictures of your cutie rabbits

Here are two little New Zealand bucks from our most recent litter. At 9 weeks and 5.4 lbs, they are our very fastest growing kits so far! They came from a small litter of only 3 (plus one foster, so 4 of them milking), but even after weaning, they have continued to grow at a really nice rate...

    Which Software?

I use Everbreed for now, but don't totally love it. You have to pay for the highest level package to have access to ledger tracking and entering your contacts, which I think is around $144 a year or so. Lower levels let you track basics like breedings, litters, gives notifications when to do...

    So much internal fat!

This sounds like great advice. Thanks so much! I usually just try to eyeball it, and like you said, if they have any left in the morning, give a little less the next day, etc. But when pregnant, I give more. That's probably what went wrong with this one, as I thought she was pregnant pretty much...

Does wouldn't lift - seeking advice on next steps

My Wintercreeper test has gone well! My test rabbit was getting several branches a day with no negative effects, so I've started offering small amounts to the rest of the herd. They are all getting a handful of clover/dandelion/plantain mix, a few small pear branches, a big comfrey leaf, and a...

That's great! Congratulations on the new kits! They're beautiful! I did try to hold the does for the bucks, but the bucks wouldn't mount with me helping. They had already been trying so many times by that point though, I think they were just worn out. I'm so glad it worked for you and I'll for...

That makes sense! My test rabbit quickly ate the few leaves I gave him today, so hopefully they like it well enough! We have lots of it and it's evergreen, so should be abundant all winter.

Still no luck finding anything definitive on wintercreeper, but I've found several sites mention that they are commonly damaged by wild rabbits eating them, so based on that I'm going to slowly introduce to a test rabbit. I'll post what happens!

Hmm... I've tried searching online for whether Euonymus fortunei, or Wintercreeper, is safe and can't find anything. I found one site that mentioned that wild rabbits feed on it during the winter, so that seems like a good sign. It's invasive here and we have a bunch of it, so it could be a good...

Thanks so much for posting that list! Do you know if Persicaria longiseta, common name Oriental lady's thumb, is safe? Our barn is literally surrounded by it! Thanks!

Where did this infant rabbit come from?

In this instance, we had saved some pulled fur from a previous litter (we had read its good to keep some on hand for just this type of thing), and we built her a nest with fur in the box and put the kits in it. She pulled more fur and had the others fine the next day and worked around the early...

What age to start handling kits?

I usually pick them up right away to count them, make sure there aren't any dead ones, etc., and then check them every day for nice full bellies. The does don't seem to mind, especially if you give them a little snack first! I just give a bit of black oil sunflower seeds (BOSS). Yes, the...

Where did this infant rabbit come from?

I've had one instance where a doe kindled two on the wire a day early with no nest building, then built her nest beautifully and kindled several more the next day. So I guess it can happen.

Yes, I've read many of your posts with info on some of the most common and helpful plants, and we have tons of plantain, dandelion, and wild raspberries, in addition to a few poplar trees, comfrey, and some young fruit trees and blueberry bushes we've recently planted. Also planning to put in...

Does wouldn't lift - seeking advice on next steps

Sounds like good advice! My biggest hesitation has been fear of contamination from wild rabbits on greens I would pick from the farm. Is this something I should worry about? Should a good rinse be enough to make them safe?

Thanks so much for the advice! I've been wanting to take the plunge and start incorporating some natural, foraged foods for a while, and I'm going to go ahead and get started as you have advised. I have 6-week old kits in with three does right now. Can they have this also, if introduced very slowly?

Thanks! Yes, that's my understanding as well, and I would never advise anyone to do otherwise. But I always have, and I guess we've been lucky so far that we haven't had any fights. They really seem to enjoy spending time together in the same cage, even when the does are being difficult and not...
