    Is there something wrong?

I just read back through this old post of mine and wanted to update. We've actually implemented some changes and for the last several litters haven't had any of these weaning losses. We started giving our rabbits fresh forage daily, putting ACV in their water, and changed the pellets we give our...

    Loose skin?

Aww! She looks great! I've only been breeding our New Zealands for a few years, but this is the first one we've had with this trait. So I was just curious of others' opinions before I decided whether or not to breed her. You mention it adds size to your herd - do you find a correlation between...

    Loose skin?

Oh yeah, I remember reading that thread. Thanks for linking it! While I'm still not sure if I want to encourage the loose skin trait in the herd, I don't think I can pass up that growth rate on a doe without getting at least one litter from her to see how they grow out. Her mom is smaller, but...

    Thanks!

    Loose skin?

Here are a few pictures. Just weighed again at 17 weeks now and 9 lbs. Her mother is only 9.5 lbs full grown. A little long and narrow in the shoulders and back feet aren't quite as wide as I'd like, but they aren't bad and that's the fastest growout rate we've ever seen. Plus I've read that...

    Loose skin?

Hi! I've struggled to get some larger does to keep as breeders, and have one now I've let grow out a bit longer to evaluate because she was larger than the others I've had. She's over 8 lbs at 15 weeks, has good broken markings and body type is fine, however she has more skin than any other...

New Zealand White Kits - What is Normal Growth?

What breed do you have? Wow, 7 lbs at 12 weeks is great! We're still trying to increase grow out size and keep some bigger does, but haven't found the right ones yet. I have too many bucks right now from keeping the ones with excellent growth rates, but can't seem to get any does with the same...

New Zealand White Kits - What is Normal Growth?

Yes, I normally only weigh once a week. My first few litters I weighed every few days, but just don't have the time for that!

    Four litters due this weekend!

Thanks! I've read that charlies can be prone to digestive issues, so we're actually happy not to get any.

    Four litters due this weekend!

First time mom Char had only 3 little black kits this afternoon. It's looking like Frost may be hiding solid black and not broken, but 3 is a pretty small sample size, so not sure just yet. I hope the small litter size was due to both rabbits still being pretty young. Nothing so far from Emma...

New Zealand White Kits - What is Normal Growth?

Here are a few examples of our NZ! We looked everywhere for something like this when we started and couldn't find much. Of course, everyone's results will vary, but I hope this is helpful!

    Four litters due this weekend!

Lola's litter of five, born this afternoon! All are broken black and it doesn't look like there are any charlies.

    Four litters due this weekend!

Here's Oreo's litter! 7 healthy kits. One was born early on the wire and was ice cold when we found it, but we got it warmed up and he's doing okay for now. The rest of the litter came about 6 hours later and we were able to reunite the wire baby with his siblings!

Watch them grow. Chicks to adult.

So cute! We just had to start over with new chicks after someone's dog killed most of ours, and they are almost 4 weeks old now. It's amazing how fast they grow!

    Four litters due this weekend!

Thanks! Lola only ever has 3 or so, and Oreo and Emma average 6-8, so not huge litters by NZ standards. Plus we were anticipating the possibility that Frost could miss since he is still pretty young, but we may end up with 4 good sized litters! I'm planning to build a grow out tractor similar to...

    Four litters due this weekend!

We took a break from breeding over the winter, so haven't had new kits in almost 4 months, but have 4 does due this weekend! One is a first time mom, and two litters are the first attempts from our fastest growing rabbit to date, a REW buck from a litter last year. He's hiding either black or...

First kindling anyone have any tips?

    Congratulations! They look great!

    Even Judges Can Be Unscrupulous

Hi! I'm so sorry you had this experience. I started with a trio of 12 week old black and broken black NZ who supposedly came from amazing show bloodlines, and the buck ended up right at 9 lbs and the does 9.5 and 10.5 lbs. We wanted them for meat (and maybe show), so were disappointed at the...

    Help identifying colors

Hi! Sorry, I only have black, broken black and REW, so I don't know a thing about any other colors (I don't even know what WE is)! Just wanted to say that they are super cute though! Beautiful colors!

First time butchering yesterday. What to do with heads, ears, feet, tails, etc?

Okay, thanks so much! If we research/experiment and come up with some good results, I'll start another thread to share!
