1st time mom, low milk production

Hi! In your experience, can low milk supply just be a first-litter problem, or is a poor milking doe likely to always be that way? I have a NZ doe whose first litter of 7 never looked all that well-fed, and have been consistently slower growing than another litter of 7 born the same day to an...

Separating Rabbit 🐰 Fur from Hay?🌿🌿🌿???

Hi! I usually just grab some clumps from the ones that pull way too much during the first day or two after kindling, before it gets all mixed in.

Whats the chances of a successful first time mom?

Hi! With my first time New Zealand moms, they've all done great! I give them a nestbox full of hay on day 28 and a little pile of extra hay each day after that to use for nest building. I always check them every several hours once we get to day 31, anticipating that i might find kits all over...

Will breeding an albino and a broken only give me white (or mostly white) kits?

You'll only get REW kits if the doe also carries it as a recessive, and even then, only half should statistically be REW and the rest will depend on the colors the TAMUK buck is hiding. There was another thread not too long ago where we discussed this in more detail. Try searching the forum for...

    Four litters due this weekend!

Aww! So cute! All of mine have done great and we've had several litters since then, including our first few charlies!

    Show me your hutches!

Hi! I just have a few strips of wood attached beneath the cage acting as tracks for the trays to sit on. I honestly don't love this after using it a while as it really smells, even with frequent dumping. I'm thinking of cutting it and just making two side by side cage stands and letting the...

    Nest box Removal.

I take the nestbox out around 2 to 2.5 weeks with our New Zealands and they do fine (1×1/2 inch floor wire). Like you said, I worry that they won't all get fed when a few jump out and can't get back in quickly enough for feedings. I usually give them a nice pile of hay for a few days in the spot...

    Does urine affect garden poo?

Thanks! So far I have also found that even with frequent dumping of the poo tray and urine bucket, the smell is much worse than the hanging cages where the waste just drops to the dirt barn floor. I generally don't smell that at all unless I am mucking it out. I appreciate your response!

    New Zealand with blue eyes

Wow, he is stunning! A pedigree is just a record of lineage, so you can certainly have a pedigree for him if you have pedigrees for his parents, but you couldn't show or register him as the eye color is a disqualification.

    New Zealand with blue eyes

Okay, if they are bright blue, I'd say @ladysown is likely correct and it's Vienna. I've never dealt with that, so I'm not sure how often you see the white patches, but maybe you just haven't seen it yet. He sounds gorgeous and I look forward to seeing his picture!

    New Zealand with blue eyes

Hi! Are they a bright blue or a darker blue/gray like these? I get this from a few does and I suspect it is from the cchd chinchilla gene. If a self black carries cchd, the only way it shows is that sometimes they will have these blue/gray mottled eyes, but often it doesn't show at all. It's...

    Does urine affect garden poo?

Hi @KelleyBee Would you mind sharing what system you are thinking of moving to and why? I recently built one cage similar to your setup because I needed somewhere for a bunch of growouts, but would love to hear your lessons learned to help me decide whether or not to build more this way. Thanks!

    Runt or peanut?

Hi! I'm no expert as I don't have a breed that produces peanuts (no dwarfing gene), but to me that just looks like a runt. If they are pure Californian, I don't think they should carry the dwarfing gene, so they can't produce true peanuts (a kit with two copies of the dwarfing gene), but I...

    Rabbits and This Plant?

I put a screenshot of your picture into my plant identification app and got this. Does this look like what you have? I don't know if it's safe for rabbits, but you could use the Latin name and Google it! I'm not an expert and am only sharing what the app said it was, so if the app is wrong...

How many do you butcher in a day?

I follow Grumpy's video, too (well, as much as I can - I still can't manage to get that first cut right, straight across from one foot to the other, but I guess practice makes perfect)! For anyone newer here who hasn't seen it, this video is awesome: Thread 'Processing Video.' Processing Video.

    Lambsquarters (Chenopodium album): Article Link

I've just recently started trying to see the value in all the "weeds" growing around our property! It's so exciting to find something new and look it up in the Picture This app, and then look up what benefits it might have and if rabbits can eat it! Just discovered some common vetch the other...

    Show me your hutches!

Here's my growout build so far. Poop is caught in the first removable tray and urine goes down the chute and into the bucket. I still need to add a j-feeder and a few water bottles, but for now my winter crocks are working. Eventually I'll add a cage and catchment below as well. So far so good!

    Show me your hutches!

I'll be following this thread! I'm currently building something for a few grow out cages and love new ideas! I'm building a wood stand to hold wire cages with a slide out tray for manure, then a catchment beneath that for urine, hopefully two cages high, inspired by the setup of @KelleyBee. I'll...

    Comfrey with blueberries?

Okay, I know this is completely off topic, and that there are other forums all about this kind of thing, but I'm not a member of those forums, so I'm asking here just in case you guys might know! I have blueberry bushes in rows that get overrun by grass and weeds every year, and I have Bocking...

New Zealand White Kits - What is Normal Growth?

Hi! Thanks! It's something I've been building in Google Sheets, with an accompanying Google Form where you enter the data (survey format). It's pretty complex with different scripts required to auto-populate the form with your rabbit names, vendors/customers for the ledger, etc. and I'd like to...
