Calling all color gurus for STS, American Chinchilla, Silver, Silver Fox, Sable, Sable Chinchilla, and anyone familiar with both Es & si genes.

Thank you so much!! I see where I got mixed up. I knew dibs and dabs of this but didn't realize that you didn't have to show the pedigree and that the SOP was THE thing that mattered. I mean, I knew that they were judged against it. So many past conversations make more sense to me now.

    Semi natural feeding (free choice)

I have had an objective to feed my rabbits entirely off my own place. But that will have to wait now until we move (Texas to Georgia). Being in west Texas, I've had the most luck with tree hay - willows and mulberry that I micro-irrigate - and edible weeds. But this summer even with irrigation...

I do not show rabbits so this is a curiosity question - How can you show a rabbit that is half Champagne and half Satin as a Champagne? I am aware that one can get back to "full" breed in several generations. I don't even know enough to know if I am asking the question correctly. He sure is a...

    Feeding alternative diet to Pellets?

Where I live in west Texas, I have had good luck with tree hay, especially willow and mulberry. I don't have a lot of grass but that works as well. I am not yet feeding for free but I'm working on it!

Is there definitive dosage recommendations for Ivermectin?

That is what it looks like to me. Now I am pretty good with math but not expert. I did look at a number of explanations and they all seemed to say the same thing. Certainly if someone sees it differently, weigh in. If I remember I will ask hubby later - he is better at math than me. It just...

Sorry Dimplz for accidentally displacing you to California.

Tamuk are slowly making their way out to CA. I had several scheduled to go from west Texas out there but the bad storm derailed that. It is a concern that the program has shut down but there are quite a few dedicated Tamuk breeders largely in Texas and OK but others spread around the country...

Is there definitive dosage recommendations for Ivermectin?

This is what I found googling: How do you convert percent solution to mg ml? To do this easily, simply add a zero to the percentage (i.e., 20% solution has 200 mg/mL, a 10% solution has 100 mg/mL and so on). So the Injectable would be 10 mg/ml if I am reading that correctly. I second what...

    Ear mites ivermectin?

A small smear anywhere in the ear works for me. Basically I get as small a dab from the tube of horse paste as I can.

Heat is radiated from the ears so the thin fur covering and large upright shape helps to facilitate that. One other factor is that they have more of a mandolin or semi arch shape versus the commercial "round" shape of something like New Zealands. You do give up just a little bit of meatiness but...

It gets below freezing at times where I raise Tamuk in Texas. They do fine.

    Tomorrow is our first dispatch.

This was our experience with the bolt stunner. And since we had other methods readily available, we didn't try to figure it out. It probably need to be in the correct spot.

    Tomorrow is our first dispatch.

BIG kudos to you!! You did it and like mentioned, a lot of people just cannot. The dispatching doesn't get easier for me, I just do it. Or rather I pick out the ones that need to go and then I hand them to my husband after a cuddle and a prayer and some tears. I find the skinning to be by far...

    Goal Setting

WOW I am SO GLAD you posted this. I have been putting off selling manure because of it being a mixture and somehow I imagined that was a no no EVEN THOUGH it is what I use on my own plants.

Starting our rabbitry journey, among others

I used to breed German Shepherds. It took me a while to wrap my head around the difference with rabbits. One of the biggies is that you have more litters and you can more easily cull out the issues with rabbits vs something like dogs. Now I would not sell half siblings as a start to someone (not...

    Just starting out!

I would love to have rabbit tractors. But I don't have any pasture or even much grass (it grows around my other stuff). There have been incidents of the RHDV2 as close as an hour from me and we do have a lot of wild rabbits in the area. Plus dogs running loose, coyotes, cats, raccoons, and who...

    Just starting out!

I'm not gonna lie, it's not fun dispatching the rabbits. But it is totally worth it. That's cool you met the author - that is a woman doing important work.

    Just starting out!

I raise Tamuk in west Texas. They are good at tolerating heat but do observe your own microclimate. I have no shade trees and so I do still use a fan and sometimes an evaporative cooling unit (husband made it out of PVC, regular cooling filters and cow panels). Here is a good explanation of the...

Growing a medicinal herb garden for rabbits

Willow and mulberry trees supply much of my forage. The rabbits love it and I just have to microirrigate (desert). I also cut and dry for winter like Alaska Satin. The garden is a great idea, it's just hard for me here. One thing that did grow for me was sweet potato vines.

How do you raise a rabbit to let you pick them up without kicking?

Husband insists I wear my gloves and something across my chest every time I handle my rabbits. If I try to sneak by, I WILL get caught even by my tamest rabbit because its a rabbit. Looking forward to trying a hold mentioned that I haven't tried. I get kevlar sleeves that are fingerless for...
