Rabbit meat cost , price for sale

That's about what I have to pay in Central CA. I put myself in the black at $10 a pound per rabbit processed for my family. It's going to take a few years to break even. I'm getting about 3.5 up to to 4lbs dressed at 12 weeks.

    I need help

I'm too new to really know, but I would isolate the sick ones if possible and also practice biosecurity with the others until you get more answers! I'm so sorry! 😔

    Flemish Giant x New Zealand

I have three 1/4 Flemish, 3/4 NZ rabbits. I bred both bucks to full NZ does. My pure NZ kits grew better and faster than my 1/8 Flemish kits. The 1/4 Flemish doe has been a very hard keeper. The bucks have been fine and weigh about 13 lb, only eat about a half cup more a day than the New...

    Worth It?

Mine does the tray cleaning and has taken over quail care. He also built the aviary and jury-rigged the rabbit run. So he deserves his quail and rabbit stews!

    Worth It?

Mine is 98% weenie. After 3 years of having quail he finally sideways watched me butcher one because he was was stoned, and just happened to be in that area of the yard, also because it was spontaneous he was therefore a bit braver. He was amazed at the trick of cutting down the sides of the...

    Greetings from Montana

Welcome! You've found a great resource! 😄 I'll reach 67 this weekend and often wonder WTH I am thinking making the jump to rabbits at my age, when I already have quail and two gardens to manage, but I did so knowing that having good clean organic meat for us and the dogs was worth the...

    Is this a chestnut

Most of that is gibberish to me ATM, but I appreciate it nevertheless! 😁 Edit: THANK YOU! 💕 I was able to follow that to the best of my ability. I need a good book or the genetics forum!

    Is this a chestnut

Forgive me for piggybacking, but what is this kit? No white ears. NZ Red doe, dad directly below with mom is NZ with 1/4 Flemish.

Just weaned a litter and doe is VERY thin

We are in the '30s at night with some wind from which they are protected. I don't know if the noise from the wind bothers them, there are things that bang around the property. They usually seem pretty chill when I check on them which is about four times a day. They are all from a warmer climate...

Just weaned a litter and doe is VERY thin

Can I ask for opinions on what winter weather does to rabbits' weights? Everybunny gets at least a cup of pellet, the bigger rabbits get a little more. They have clean leafy green timothy at all times. I also give them alfalfa timothy horse cubes to gnaw. The lactating does and kits get...

Just weaned a litter and doe is VERY thin

Thank you again so much! I am really attached to these does, and I understand what you're saying about the gut biome. We've watched a lot of documentaries about how it affects people, even down to psychological aspects. The gut behaves like a second brain in a lot of ways. The question becomes...

Just weaned a litter and doe is VERY thin

Again this is wonderful information, thank you so much! I've been trying to get them off the basic Purina rabbit pellets. It may be that the lack of corn and soy is causing loss of weight, but the Modesto has more oats, which should make up for that..? I've kept them at a 1 to 2 ratio and took...

Just weaned a litter and doe is VERY thin

AWESOME I info, thank you so much! How much oats and BOSS can I feed daily? Maybe I am not feeding enough? It's a couple of heaping tablespoons of each 2x a day. I am also wondering if they don't like the Modesto I'm transitioning to. I gave a dab of Safeguard to the two crosses that came in...

Just weaned a litter and doe is VERY thin

My 1 year old American Blue doe had seven kits, and did really well with them. I weaned them at 7 weeks because they just wouldn't leave her alone. She is VERY thin. I'm giving her (and have been giving her all along while lactating) oats and black oil sunflower seeds. She's not eating very...

Need advice for new meat source

Yes you absolutely can feed the Coturnix scrambled eggs or hard boiled chopped with the shell. I used to just throw them whole in the blender and then right into the pan with melted butter, but it would still stick. So now I give them hard boiled chopped, shell and all. They can also have...

Need advice for new meat source

I've considered that for the last year and a half, but I'm already pretty well covered up with two big gardens, 50 quail, 39 rabbits now and two fussy Poodles. It is something that I would like to try this summer, because the birds follow us around until they get their worms. One of them will...

Need advice for new meat source

Just a general note that game bird feed that is about 30% protein for starter is what quail chicks need up until 8 weeks. Then you can adjust them down to 22%, but the hens really do need the game bird layer. We grind the crumble a little bit for the chicks for the first couple weeks. The adults...
