Questions for people who use a pellet pistol for dispatch please

I also use a Gamo Swarm break barrel .22 rifle with a 10 round magazine. With the heavier hunting pellet it's about 800 to 900 FPS. I put the barrel no more than a couple inches from the rear base of their skull, below and between the ears, aimed to come out the mouth. Unless they move suddenly...

    Help pricing rabbit manure?

When we were selling our five gallon buckets we ended up going down to about $15, but the buckets were full of hand-picked dry berries and further dried out on our driveway. So very little hay and no urine. So my husband was basically getting about $3 an hour for his labor. The stuff that is...

Questions for people who use a pellet pistol for dispatch please

Hi! Sorry I'm late with a reply. It depends on how big the rabbits are, I can usually do two four month olds in the large instant pot, which is anywhere from 5 to 6 lb dressed? I may have to cut them up to get them to fit, but that's usually when I'm cooking everything plain for the dogs. So it...

Questions for people who use a pellet pistol for dispatch please

I don't know about your kids but when I instant pot rabbits for us, I put in garlic, onion, celerey and carrots, then Italian herbs and maybe bay leaf. It makes an awesome broth (which I save for soup but could make a gravy), and I generally serve with mashed potatoes and a nice green veg. I...

    Journey into quail

I can't stand stink of quail, because of whether I usually have a brooder bin inside. I use a really big Home Depot HDX bin with a hardware cloth and wood frame that sets over the top to keep them from getting out. This year I used heat plates and no heat lamps in order to reduce the risk of...

    Not new, but returning!

The adult rabbits will be fine well below freezing. Just add more hay for insulation for the mothers to use as they need. If it's inside a building you don't have to worry about wind or rain which is more problematic. That's what can affect their health or kill them. Not the cold. For the babies...

Help analyzing liver of recently butchered doe

Did you open up one of those big capsules? Those look more like flukes to my novice eye, but wait for the experts. I'm just following..

    Help pricing rabbit manure?

You can save your feed bags and use those. They'll hold more than a five gallon bucket though. I had a lot of good results and then not so much after summer started. Which was fine because that's when I was using it all myself. It will depend on your area.

How old does a NZ have to be to reproduce?

I had a sneaker buck who was in with his sisters and successfully bred one of them at 3 months. I didn't know until I found fur all over her cage one morning and two dead kits. Found another kit by the squeaking. It had crawled through the bars into its aunt's cage. I brought it in and warmed...

    New zealand flemish mixes

Plus one. I think Flemish are awesome and if I didn't have to worry about my furniture and my cords I'd love to have one as a house bunny. But the costs didn't work for me. I am doing fine with my New Zealands and my American Blues. My blue does when adult run average 10 to 11 lb, the New...

@Alaska Satin Such a clear and detailed explanation, thank you so much!

    Tail biting

I don't, but when dogs get it, it's fleas. Is there any staining of the fur? Does the skin irritated or broken? Does she have a cage mate who might be interested in that area? That's one way I find out I've misgendered one of the young does in my growout cages, one who's taco turned into a...

    Is This An American Rabbit?

That's a mandolin body shape and it looks a lot like my Americans, but yes, purebreds are rare and hard to find. The white should have red eyes according to SOP. Nice looking rabbit though. 😃

Do you find it soothing when petting your rabbit?

I have one New Zealand red doe who shoves her nose as hard as she can through the cage bars when she sees me. I have to kiss it several times, then give her oats. If I kiss her and don't give her oats she bangs her food bowl. I have another NZ REW doe who was my friendliest kit from one litter...

Feeding oats, alfalfa cubes and pellets

I feed pellet with a sprinkle of rolled oats in the mornings, and give a good amount per bun of timothy hay at night. For moms with kits the same, except I keep the pellet bowl full and also give BOSS. For additional enrichment I give them a few alfalfa-timothy hay cubes and apple wood sticks to...

    I finally did it - Dispatch/Process

My first was a cull from the person who I bought my first duo from, and I wasn't attached. The first litter I dispatched were all nippy American Blues with bad color coats. I did three young bucks in a row, then sat on my patio and cried. It's good to get more practical about it, but not to stop...

Not new, it's just been a while

Welcome! I really miss my horses, they were such an important part of my life and so healing to my heart and soul, even though they caused a lot of damage to my body. I have a few favorite buns now who want kisses and love pets which I didn't expect from them. I really appreciate them all...

    Not new, but returning!

A lot of us are echoing your concerns about the heat. We are hovering around a hundred, and with the AC in my little rabbitry going full blast I can't get it down past 85 or 90. I'm sorry you lost a good mama! 😔
