    My colony and video

Good to know about your Mama and friends! :D That gives me an idea of what to expect. Hm, I'll have to see how this may work for my own set up! I already have wire in the ground and even doubled it up, but we have pesky raccoons who are insistent they will get in my backyard through this...

    My colony and video

Thank you so much, Disney, for answering my questions! :D Your set up has definitely got me thinking about how to do my own set up. Been running ideas in my head all day. I didn't realize you were in Holland! I forget not everyone on this board is on the North American continent. :oops...

    My colony and video

I don't have any suggestions for you, but I wanted to thank you for sharing! :D Seeing your set up has really solidified in my heart my desire to do a semi-colony and get my rabbits out of cages (for the most part...cages have their purposes). I do have just a couple questions for you, if...

    Where did my post go?

I started a post on what the proper term was for putting a rabbit down and now I can't find it. I thought the conversation was going smoothly. Did I do something wrong?

Safe to eat rabbit with wry neck?

Happy, that is fabulous information! Thank you! I'm definitely going to research this a bit more, because I'm fascinated by it. I appreciate you taking the time to get me started on my search! :D

    Intro and Questions (Long, sorry!)

What do I carry? I'd answer that if you asked what I was wearing today, because I change guns/holsters like I change outfits! Springfield XDs are my favorite, though. I think we need a new post to talk about guns on the random ramblings board! :D I see you already purchased from...

    Intro and Questions (Long, sorry!)

Good idea! But would that be cost effective in the long run? PistolPackinMomma, I'm a pistol packin' Mama, too! :D I relate so much to your enthusiasm and end goals when I first got started! I'll be watching how your story unfolds, too! We have rabbits in our garage to keep them on the...

Safe to eat rabbit with wry neck?

I did do a little research, but I didn't see anything about cancers. So this is good to know! CDC only said , "Prion diseases or transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are a family of rare progressive neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals." Any additional...

Safe to eat rabbit with wry neck?

I didn't see any signs of weepy eye, so hopefully that's not the cause then! :) That's very good to know about the difference between cooked meat that had parasites versus prions. To be honest, I hadn't heard of prions before and didn't realize mad cow was a prion, not a parasite. This is...

Safe to eat rabbit with wry neck?

Always! :) Guess I was just concerned that while some of the reasons for wry neck didn't sound too concerning, one possible reason for wry neck is a parasite that attacks the brain. Naturally, the idea of eating something that has a parasite like that would concern me it could pass to us...

Safe to eat rabbit with wry neck?

I have a rabbit that is starting to show signs of wry neck. We were going to send him to freezer camp today anyways, but I'm not sure if the meat is still okay to eat? I've read many different opinions as to what causes wry neck and since no one seems to agree on a cause, I thought I might ask...

    Excess fat?

CloeysRabbitRanch, that's good to know! Makes me feel a bit better! :D I haven't seen as much fat on any of my rabbits since then, so she must have been a hungry, hungry hippo! I don't think "pig" would have described her. Lol! Seems some rabbits just enjoy a bit more chow...

    Excess fat?

You're right, Happy! :D I just looked it up and realized where I had become confused, as it appears it is several parasites and other bugs/eggs that can be killed through freezing. Now I know what freezing will and won't do! :)

    Excess fat?

I had read that freezing the meat first would kill any bacteria/virus', so that I could grind it up for my dogs after dethawing the meat. Is that not true for Pasteurella? :o Edited to add: And yes, Maggie J, I will certainly freeze it next time and come here to ask first! :D

    Excess fat?

Thank you so much, Miss M, for that bit of excellent information! :D I will start feeling their spines to get a better idea of what is underneath. That's interesting about the different breeds having a different feel. NZ and Cali's seem so similar, but I have noticed that my NZ's seem boney...

    Excess fat?

YES!!! :P That's what it basically looked like, except she didn't have all the fat marbles in the skin layer like that rabbit does. My doe's fat was mostly all in her intestines with just a tad bit more in the skin layer around the hind legs. The liver was engulfed in the fat and had to be...

    Excess fat?

Thank you for responding, MaggieJ! :D To answer your questions, the doe was 6 months old and since it's winter, she had eaten mostly all alfalfa pellets (Countryside Organics) with a some carrots/kale/pear bits here and there. She freely ate hay, as well. The other ones were her siblings...

    Excess fat?

When we were butchering our rabbits today, we noticed one had a ton of excess fat and the meat itself had a tinge of yellow. We have never seen this before and couldn't find any information online, so I was wondering if anyone here may have some insight into why our rabbit had excess fat? When...

What's on the bottom of your colonies?

I'll be following this post, as I am wondering the same thing as GBov. Thank you, Akane, for mentioning plywood! Seems like a no brainer now. :)
