    Doe: sudden hind qtr paralysis

Everybody, Thanks for the notes! We are trying the Tums trick and will give her a little more time. We had a great, but cold winter with almost 200 little ones basically incident free. Something was bound to happen. The baby's are doing well with the foster moms and possibly her last gift to...

    Doe: sudden hind qtr paralysis

My awesome NZ doe that consistently has 10-12 baby's gave birth to 10 last Tue. Yesterday afternoon I notice that she was sitting awkward and check her to find that she is now paralyzed in her back legs. She was fine in the morning and boom she wasn't. She does not seem to be in pain and if...

    Kit nursing/weaning questions

MDS when you get through the Christmas rush and settle back down could you provide a little more info on the nesting box / arrangement in the pictures above. We are still experimenting with a few different versions from summer time metel box (wood floors) to the rubber made plastic trays...

    $10,000 shy

MSD is correct on borrowing from your retirement fund or perhaps 401k. Typically, the repayment is taken from your weekly or bi-weekly compensation which makes it look and feel more manageable and the interest is basically re-payed to yourself. Over the years my wife and I have used this...

    Wild kit colors!

I think they are just really cool!!! We crossed a black NZ with a creme d and got similar results, but with a lot more strips in them. Four were harlequin colored and three were jet black. We even got the opposing colors on the ears and face. While we breed for meat rabbits, its fun to peek...

    Ugly Liver - Graphic pictures

I've read that for the ammonia it should be mixed with water at 10% ammonia 90% water. Does that sound right? For the Doris powder I've used 3/4 teaspoon per gal of water for treatment and 1/3 for prevention. Does sound sound correct as well? Thanks for the help.

    Ugly Liver - Graphic pictures

That's what I figured as well. I suspect that at some point during handling we contaminated there growout pen a few weeks back. We pulled the pen from the shelter after discovering the liver and will be bleaching and torching it today. We got a new batch of 5 week olds that are destined for...

Popples!!!! Our first live litter!! Update- 8(I think!)

While there are others here that are way more experienced then me, i've had this happen several times as well. Each time after mom has finished clean everything up, I've picked up the nest abd kits and re-positioned them into the box. I typically distract mom with a little new hay or a little...

Well the education continues!!! We breed one of our 8.5 month old does (a big girl as well) to our creme buck and Sunday was day 29. I had put the box in the evening of the 28th day and the next evening she started pulling hair and making her nest. All seemed well and I expect some little...

Run down or tired doe with 4 week old kits

Pretty sure..The mother is a whopping 10+ pounder and the buck bigger yet. She was one of our runts, but a dream to handle and such. But, anything is possible...at this point. Lots of second guessing and remorse at this point..

Run down or tired doe with 4 week old kits

You are absolutely correct. This little hobby farm of ours in the last year has been very interesting for our family. I've hit the halfway point with turning 50 years old this year and my high school sweetheart is two year my Jr. As an x soldier of war, big game hunter with numerous trips to...

Run down or tired doe with 4 week old kits

As I feared, the dreaded "P" word. We've move them out and have treated the mother with antibiotics. The baby's seem fine, but will be separate until we understand what going on. Honestly, we may decide to dispatch them all in the next day or so. We've quickly built up a sizable herd and I'm...

Run down or tired doe with 4 week old kits

Last night the doe had no interest in feeding the kits and we pulled you from the cage. It appears she has a few things going as follows: mild case of wet tail, sore teats and some discharge (yellow) from her nose. Plus a little discharge and crusting in the corner of her eys and one sore...

Run down or tired doe with 4 week old kits

She's on pellets, some oats and good green hay. The little ones are eating all of it and drinking plenty. This is the first time we had this many kits (normally 5 or 6) and she just looks lousy. She pretty easy to handle and I've tried to move her a bit and she seems really weak and thin. I'm...

Run down or tired doe with 4 week old kits

I have a NZ doe that has a litter of 7 kits that are one day short of 4 weeks old. I've notice that she looks a bit tired or run down. I know she's still feeding the kits, at least in the evening as I've seen the little trouble makers hard at work. Its been really cold here the last few...
