    New Litter!!

So, update on the babies. They’re about three and a half weeks old now, it’s hot as heck where I am so I brought them inside for a bit. Plus it helps them get used to people. A few of them are starting to get their little points, a surprising amount of them’s tails have gotten dark pretty quickly.

    Fur & Size Genes?

Ooook, so. About what I was expecting honestly. It felt weird to me originally honestly that dwarf genes where so simple, as a lot of the time once you get into things like sizing it gets really complicated really fast. So, it definitely checks that giants are made using a bunch of different...

    Fur & Size Genes?

So, I at this point am decently knowledgeable on coat color genes (not to say I can’t always know more, but I know more than a lot of people), buuuut I’m finding it hard to find resources on things like long hair genes in rabbits or what genes cause Giant breeds to be so huge. Sure, I already...

    New Litter!!

So, at long last, my meat does have actually successfully given me a litter. Well, one of them did. My lovely NZW doe had a litter of ten this morning, although when I found them there were two dead. It seems like one may have been stillborn or something to that affect and the other got dragged...

    Possible Aborted Kits?

I did look at them closer, no bones so probably not aborted kits then. Maybe she did abort them and eat the kits or something? I’m not sure though, I’ve never known her to be very fast to eat a dead litter as her last one was and all the kits were intact when I found them. Then again, I’m pretty...

    Possible Aborted Kits?

So, I have a Californian doe that I’m expecting a litter from 1st/2nd of June. I’m placing nest boxes tomorrow, but I’ve been gone over the weekend. When I left Thursday everything was pretty normal and fine, however I got back today and checked on the rabbits to find two strange kinda fleshy...

    Pregnant Doe not Eating

So, I dumped out her food and water and replaced it. She is since eating and drinking more, so I’m preasonally guessing it was something about her water. But, anyways, thanks for the advice. Also I weighed her, and she does weigh a bit more than last time a weighed her so that’s good.

    New Rabbit... Name?

I saw RC and got the urge to name her race car. Thats mainly just my brain being silly though.

    Pregnant Doe not Eating

Well, I’ll make sure she has nice clean water and her water bottle is working right and then probably replace her feed just in case. If she keeps not eating her pellets or starts eating them again I’ll get back to you on it.

    Pregnant Doe not Eating

Hmm, I’ll check to make sure on the water. I know the last time I even maybe tried to breed her was months back, so it can’t be that she’s closer to due than I’m aware unless one of my relatives for some reason decided to get her out and breed her while I was gone or something which seems pretty...

    Pregnant Doe not Eating

So, one of my does isn’t eating. She’s due to have kits the third or fourth of June, she’s been drinking just a little bit of water and I don’t think her feed has gone down at all in the past two or so days. I gave her some hay and she ate it, but she hasn’t been having any feed. I’m feeding the...

What other critters do you have?

Well, I personally only really have my rabbit herd. Buuuut on the farm we have: A herd of usually about 20 (mostly, although there’s recently some dairy crosses in there) angus cattle + 2 Jersey heifers (Daisy and Moon Star) A pack of three assorted doodles and two Great Pyrenees (we think...

    Weird colored kits

Ok, this is very helpful. I’d say the second gene on my doe is probably c(h) if I had to guess, as I’m pretty sure there was a Cali at some point back in her line although it was quite a while ago. Funny thing though my stepmom was actually right about the double maned kit, she actually proposed...

Sore hocks, boards and hay haven’t worked.

No I don’t think so, he’s I think between 9 1/2 and 10 lbs. I don’t know much about feeds or medicines to help with any of it, but someone else on here might.

    Weird colored kits

Ah ok, thank you for the differentiation. I’ve been working with the genes involved for a while but only recently somewhat have names for them. Also, I got pictures of the kit and parents. And yes he’s produced two with her and one with another doe Also, I only noticed that his fur has a...

Sore hocks, boards and hay haven’t worked.

Ok then thank you, I’ll see what I can do. Whilst I don’t have a solid bottomed cage I can most probably get ahold of one. I have a second buck who’s pretty reliable for breeding, a Cali, and he’s never even gotten a hint of sore hocks. Plus he’s a gorgeous buck really. So, I can just switch...

    Weird colored kits

So, my sable point doe has had a second litter and one of the kits is looking a touch strange. When it was born it had black skin with pink around the belly and stuff, so did one of the other kits. Their father is a VM self black buck, so I assumed it was another VM. But now that the kits have...

Sore hocks, boards and hay haven’t worked.

So, I have a couple of New Zealand bucks who’ve gotten sore hocks. Same litter I think. One of them isn’t so bad but the other two have somehow managed to get sores on their front feet as well. The front feet sores appeared after I gave them both boards for their sore hocks, I’ve since started...

    Gorgeous Lionhead, wrong color though

Yeah, that’s the plan so far. Gonna try and get either a self black or self blue buck as I’m not sure how allowed BEWs are in showing but I do know those two are allowed. I miiiight end up taking her to show at my county fair this year just for fun really, plus I have to do showing along with my...

    Gorgeous Lionhead, wrong color though

So, I’ve got doe who pretty thoroughly matches up with the Lionhead breed standard. And she’s just gorgeous really, good temperament and everything. But, problem is her father was a BEW, which means she’s a partial veinna which I’m pretty sure is disqualifying. She’s got Dutch sort of markings...
