Forage-only diet; what if I exclude grain completely from my rabbits' diet?

So you do not give them grains right? There is no alfalfa (medicago sativa) in my area but there are 4 other subspieces of medicago, the most commons are medicago arabica and medicago polymorpha. Their protein content is similar with alfalfa.

House Flies - tips and tricks?

I had fungus knat problem in previous years because of my red worm bin but I had never house flies until I started to raise rabbits in my house 50 days ago. There are flyscreens in all my windows but somehow dozens of house flies apeared 10 days after I brought the rabbits. Their number...

Forage-only diet; what if I exclude grain completely from my rabbits' diet?

My foraged diet for my rabbits is going well for the last 50 days, I can find herbs, fruits, veggetables, leaves and barks, but it is not easy to find grains in nature. Wild versions of the grains such as millet and oat have very limited amount of grains and they are restricted to a few months...

New Zealand or Turkish "fortune teller" rabbit?

Some more Turkish red eye rabbits, they are chosing one of the papers that fortunes are written. Unfortunately nowadays police do not let them work anymore because of animal right activists (facepalm) Sometimes they are used to chose lottery tickets lol. Some fortune teller rabbits from...

New Zealand or Turkish "fortune teller" rabbit?

The previous owner told me that it is a male Turkish rabbit. When I get home I double checked and she is clearly a female. The guy is not an actual rabbit seller so he has little to no knowledge about rabbit breeds. We have a red eyed white rabbit breed in Turkey, actually it is not actually...

When you take a rabbit for slaughter and don't bring it back, how do other rabbits react?

Thank you all for your replies. It seems rabbits are not intelligent as I thought, not only your comments but also my one month rabbitry experience made me think that rabbits are definitely not clever animals at all. I made this thread because 4 days ago I had to wash my rabbits and since then...

When you take a rabbit for slaughter and don't bring it back, how do other rabbits react?

Do they understand what had happened when you take a rabbit to slaughter and do not bring it back? Are they starting to fear you? You take the litters of a mother one by one every week, I think the others might see you as a danger, or at least they will not trust you anymore. Are they even...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

I do not regard oxalets as imminent thread either, the problem mentioned about dock seeds (which I doubt about) was not oxalates, but potassium binoxalate which occurs as a result of reaction between potassium hydroxide and oxalic acid. This is at least what they claim. Nothing happened, my...

Unprocessed dried soybean in moderation, is it OK for rabbits?

I want to add unprocessed dry soybean to my rabbits diet fot it's high protein content, soybean will make up nomore than %1-3 of their total diet. My concern is not about estrojen levels, all my rabbits are female except one cub and I don't think %1-3 will cause problems. But I think there are...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

30 minutes ago my rabbits ate some plants that I foraged for myself, put in the box and forget. I put the box to the rabbit cage to feed them and completely forget that Rumex Crispus (curly dock) seeds which are "very poisonious for rabbits" were among the plants. After 5 minutes I saw them...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

I made the cage out of leightweight pine wood in case I'll have to move it. It is 2 metres wide (6.5 feet) and 2 metres height, (only cage inside is 108 cm/3.5 feet height). It is 120 cm/4 feet deep. Within 4 days I'm hoping to make 2 new worm bins and combine it to hutch BTW, will make a nice...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

I was going to do this to prevent diarrhea but they were so happy with their new food that I couldn't resist and gave them what they want, which is greens. But I still kept giving them their previous main food too, which is a mix of different grains that I took from the previous owner. Only one...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

Today I gave the dried leaves with some hay, mostly wild oat hay and millet hay with grains on it. They ate the hay but not the leaves. Tomorrow after foraging I will put the twig ends in the water to prevent wiltering but this will be a temporary solution. The previous owner fed them mostly...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

It has been 6 days since I bought the rabbits, everything was perfect until today. My bunnies do not eat dry or half dry leaves and twigs, if the leaves are freshly cutted they eagerly eat them. Today I gave them some herbs and tree leaves and twigs that I harvested 3 days ago, leaves were half...

What breed are these and are their breeds large enough to be a meat rabbit?

Full white rabbits are young females, spotted white and yellow rabbit is a male. Females are of the same breed, the male is apparently from an unrelated breed, so we are talking about two different breeds.. The owner is not acknowledged about rabbit breeds just like me and he thinks the females...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

These are the questions that I've been asking myself for weeks, nice questions. Plant diversity significantly reduces in winter here, so I'm planning to store dried herbs. Also I might increase the amount of twigs in winter just like the wild rabbits do. I don't worry about vitamins and...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

Unfortunately I do not have much choice about meat breeds, there is only continental giant and New Zealand breeds. Rabbit meat is regarded as unusual food in my country, more than %99 people has never eat rabbit meat in their life. Also %20 of the population regards rabbits as sacred animals and...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

This is my cage plan, it is 2 to 1 meters and 1 mt high. As far as I see, the problem with the common self cleaner cages is the angle is too low and the waste usually do not get its way to the bin and stops in half way. I think 45 degrees angle will solve this problem but this means too much...

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

I will make a self cleaning system too, probably similar to yours (angled trays and PVC pipes), but I'm surprised that they somehow pee outside the tray. I haven't build the cage yet, should I make a wider tray beneath the cage to catch all the pee?

Foraging plants for 2 giant rabbits & raising them in an apartment room, is it possible?

These are the answers that I'm looking for, thank you Preitler :)) The room I'm planing to raise the rabbits have 2 windows with 45 degrees angle, so I think opening both will be enough for ventilation. I do not use that room for anything else. I live very close to the sea, the winter and...
