I'm not confused by these kits, but I am pleased as punch. Here's a little brain teaser for y'all:
Sire: AAbbCCDdee (orange)
Dam: a(t)aBBCcddEE (blue otter)
(now there is a chance I'm wrong and the blue otter is Ee and the kits are truly orange. That would be amazing. And surprising -- no hint of orange, fawn, red, tort, or any non-extension in her pedigree. But surprises can happen.)
(aren't they cute together?)
Babies should all be chestnut or opal, right? Well, they are... but then the rufus gets involved
I believe the two orange-looking kits are high-rufus opal. The silvery (opal) one and the deep chestnut are getting orange-tinged too, here at day five.
What's funny to me is that except for the deep chestnut kit they look a lot like what someone totally unfamiliar with rabbit genetics might expect from looking at the parents. I'm thrilled because I expected just two colors and lucked out with what appears like three.
