I'm not new to raising rabbits but have recently started focusing on raising meat for our family of 5. We are currently setting up a new rabbitry with new to us cages, which is a much better set up than what we've been working with for the last 15 years. Currently have 6 breeding does and hoping to raise enough grow outs to be able to eat 2 rabbits a week.
We live on a 16-acre farm in north central Pennsylvania. We currently have a menagerie of animals including 2 Jersey cows (who are in milk and provide all of our dairy needs and feed their calves), 3 pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, turkeys, a donkey, and of course the rabbits.
The rabbit cages I am installing came with drop down nest boxes and I'm new to this type of nest box. Does anyone here in the group have experience with this type of nest box? I've always used wooden boxes that just set in on the floor of the momma's cage. So far we've had two does kindle in the drop-down nest boxes within the last week. They seem to be working out well so far.
