I’m thinking about getting Champagnes as well. In my area Bruns are hard to find. I’ve heard rumors about other breeders crossing Californians to Bruns to improve their type. Nice type Champagnes are easy to find.

If you can really find Champagnes with type as good as Californians (?), I'd probably use one of those rather than a Cal to improve Bruns. Chocolate (Brun) is only a step or two away from black (Champagne). They are both silvered, and they're also both full-color selfs, and once you get that recessive chocolate set in your herd, you won't ever see another black.

Cals are also selfs, but they will set you back in terms of silvering. And that himalayan allele is another recessive, but one you don't want to set, and it will likely hide and pop out when you least expect it...and always on the best bunny in the litter! :ROFLMAO:

A New Zealand Black would be another good option, if you have good NZBs around. You would still be set back a bit on the silvering, but at least you wouldn't be fighting the himi recessive.
