Hi, I'm in the Appalachian mountains in Virginia. I grew up with rabbits and have continued to raise rabbits as an adult, breeding primarily for meat and fur, but also adhering as closely as possible to breed standards even though I don't personally show them. I recently got some English angoras for the fiber and I absolutely love them.

thank you! I have standard Rex, Silver Fox (just one pair at present), Some meat mixes with (NZ, californian, satin, rex, silver fox), two Flemish Giant (Pets) and a few Netherland Dwarfs

That sounds fantastic! You must have an abundant supply of meat.
I like the slow-roasted rabbit. What's your favorite recipe?:)

How yall fellow Virginians doing this week? Ready for more cold and icky rain? XD
I looked up where Big Stone Gap was in case I ever wanted to buy some rex from you. But man, you are out there! Meeting in Hillsville would likely be the easiest if we ever did. lol. But not right now. My kids would barf in the car so much. haha.

Yes, we are quite a bit out of the way for sure! I always have to drive a bit to find good stock to add. I just did a major cull and got back down to 19 here from 79 at the beginning of 2022 summer. I am on the lookout for some good silver foxes. My Rex I have been working on for 3 years and have them just where I want them to be. If my health would cooperate I would love to show them this year.

Apologies, I replied to this post in my mind and not in reality LOL Anyways, this recipe is the family favorite:
After developing an adult allergy to eggs and milk I am still working on a modification of it that I can eat, but my kids, church family, and everyone loves this one. Simple ingredients, longer cook time, but so so worth it.

Wow, 79...that's a lot of bunnies at once. O__O
I hope it goes well for you with showing. I think the closest shows around here are Christiansburg/Blacksburg somewhere near VATech. So maybe someday I'll see you there if my son tries to show. He is still a tad bit young. But I can see him doing it.
Have you tried duck eggs? Sometimes the egg allergy is to a specific protein in chicken eggs. Also, sometimes it's an allergy to the yolk, but not the white. I also had a friend who could eat free range chicken eggs but not store bought. Your allergy may slowly go away or get less severe too. My brother developed one that went away after a year. He had to see a specialist who gave a lot of good advice and talked to him about ways to gradually desensitize the body's response. But I know it's different for everyone. Ignore me if you already have heard all this cuz I'm sure you probably have. It sucks tho. You have my sympathy.

That recipe looks really yummy.
