Hi, welcome. Yes people here know their rabbits and I'm amazed at how cool people are. I started in April this year but it sure feels longer than that now. Can't wait til spring to have another litter. My buck and doe make me laugh everyday. Nothing cuter than seeing a happy bunny doing binkys through the yard. People can't believe they don't run off when I turn them out but they bond with you and seem to enjoy me being around. Have fun with your new hobby, it's great!

Thank you for the welcome! I love my rabbits, and find a kind of serene pleasure just being around them!

Temperament is so important to me because I do want to have a relationship with my rabbits. I am intrigued. What other attributes do you like in the Rex?
The pelts are the big win for sure, like velvet. Also I’ve found out of the few breeds I’ve had now, they have a nice disposition as well. I raise meat rabbits, so I can’t speak to temperaments of the little guys. I recently got rid of my small herd of Satin’s because they were so timid and would cower in the corner everyday at feeding time, they just never came around. I like rabbits that are happy to see me and are ok with/like being petted everyday.

I just acquired a young satin buck. He didn't care for his previous owner and it was evident watching their interaction. However, I have only had Roman 2 weeks and from day one he has ran to the cage door to greet me. He runs around his cage and then comes back to me. Maybe it is just the difference in the linage.
I love my Rex also.

Hello Coleen,

Welcome from St. Maries, Idaho. (Emida, about 4 hours from Council)

Are you breeding for meat or ?. NZ are great for meat rabbits as they grow out quickly.
I have some NZ crosses. One of my favorite does is a NZ cross. My DinL is going to Moscow tomorrow to pick up a purebred, Pedigree NZ buck. She is switching from Cremes to NZ.

But I have to say, Rex are great! They are super sweet and their fur is amazingly soft.
Currently, I have Purebred Rex, Flemish Giant and Satin along with several mixes.
I absolutely love raising rabbits! They are my daily therapy and bring lots of joy.

If you are ever coming up my direction, give me a shout.

I'm raising mine for meat as well, and spend a lot of time with the adults. I have six week old kits in a grow-out box as of yesterday and they seem to be curious and friendly.

My doe is a NZ/Rex mix. She's an easy keeper and smart. Pretty sweet but she can hold her own. My buck is a Cali White and he's very sweet. They make nice babies. I have no interest in showing, it's all meat and fur for me.
My does are all NZ, and I have one NZ buck and one Silver Fox buck. That Silver Fox buck is a delightful fellow. Friendly, and very gentle with the does. He's quite the gentleman! The NZ buck is younger and very sweet. He's not as friendly as Pete, the SF, but a nice boy. I have no interest in showing either.

Hello Buknee!!

It's great to meet someone from my part of the world! I'm breeding for meat. I was actually hoping to find someone close to me with Cremes to bring into my rabbitry. I am considering crosses for genetic diversity but also want to keep purebred lines. I've been reading a lot about the benefits of crossing lines and ran into information about a terminal cross in breeding. I've got a lot to learn, but am up for the challenge. I just need to find some really great books and research articles! After reading a number of comments here, I'd love to bring in a Purebred Rex breeding pair, too. Are you my go-to for both Cremes and Rexes?!! I've got purebred papered NZ does and a purebred papered NZ buck if you are ever interested in a purebred NZ.

I hear you about the daily therapy. I love my rabbits and find myself drawn to the barn even when they don't need me! They are beautiful, fun, and sweet.
