Hello everyone!

so I bred my campion buck (black) with my REW doe (she has 6 legs). I have pedigrees that go way back for both rabbits. This was my out come. My REW has nothing but REW and I have a 4 generation pedigree and papers on her. My buck also came with 4 generations and nothing but black and broken black in his genetics as far back as the pedigree allows. What the heck happened here? What are these colors?!? This is not what I was expecting at all.

looks like steel. VERY common in "white" new zealands. She probably is steel under that white coat. They will probably look a lot like this when mature. Depends on how the steel comes in.

Dang!! I was hoping not to have steels. I have three of them from a different litter (different mom and dad) and since they are not a recognized color (even though I’m finding it to be a crazy common). I really was hoping for a broken black.

if you have no broken in the litter you most likely do not have a REW carrying broken under her coat. To get broken black you'll need the broken gene.

but if HE is not broken, then he doesn't carry it. (unless he has one or more white nails).
Crud. He does not have any white on him at all. One of the babies has white nails. I haven’t been able to even look them over because mom is SO PROTECTIVE and will bite me if I touch them. I hope when they start hopping out of the nest I can look them over for color better

So use a pan lid to block her AND reward her with a special treat. Remove the nestbox and check over the kits. return the box, reward the doe. :)

That’s a GREAT idea!! I’ll try that tomorrow. This rabbit is the ONLY one I have that I can’t really handle. She’s a show bunny so she’ll allow you to “show” her but if you try anything at all affectionate towards her she’s mean. And breeding her brought out a whole side of crazy I’ve never seen in a bunny 🤣🤣🤣
