Hoodat is taking care of the bunnies I brought for MSD this week since the hotel does not allow pets. We went to dinner and had a really nice time visiting.
I wish I could keep them but at least I have the pleasure of their company for a while. Sorry the house is so torn up with me replacing the floors or I could have offered you a room and saved you a hotel bill.
Thanks One Acre for posting your time with Hoodat. So glad that you both had a lovely time. And also, Taking care of MDG's rabbits, lol.
Hoodat, so glad you are on the mend. I have to say, I've learn lots from you here and on other backyard forums. Hoping you get those rabbits from MDG, and can have some fun again with rabbits. And God Bless you, after heart surgery, already working on floors. Good for you!
My son is a nurse and he's always trying to get me to slow down but it just isn't in me. My cardiologist tells me to take a nap whenever I feel tired. I just can't do it. I just replced a batch of facia board at the edge of the roof (termites had it for breakfast) and now it needs painting. My garden is a sorry mess but at least there are a lot of weeds there the rabbits like. Who has time for a nap?
Maybe I'll ask around and find someone who needs a roof over their head in exchange for the housework.I like to cook but I'm terrible about putting off the cleanup. I suck at that chore.
Thank you so much for watching over them for me, Hoodat! I have been looking over my buns for you, trying to pick out a nice pair. Bunnyswap in two days.
Rabbits love the wood shelves. It's instinctive to them to get up higher so they can watch for predators. They actually serve several purposes. The rabbits get exercise jumping on and off them, it gives their feet a break from the wire and with breeding does it gives mama a place to hide when the kits get to be too pesky. A foot wide shelf also (in effect) extends the floor space by that much without taking up valuable rack space. The wood shelves are the reason I make my cages 2 feet high. That way I can put the shelves at 1 foot high and it's hard for young kits to jump that high although a doe has no trouble. You can put shelves in 18 inch high cages but I find the minimum headroom a mature rabbit needs is 10 inches from the shelf to the cage top. With less head room large rabbits sometimes bump their heads on the top wire when they jump up. That only leaves the shelves 8 inches high and even a small kit can jump that high so mama can't use it to get away from them when it's weaning time. The 1X2s at the sides look as though they should be under the shelf but the shelf boards are screwed to the bottom. That way you have sides to keep any bunny berries from falling at the sides of the cage when you have to scrape them.
