Rabbit meat cost , price for sale

Nice! I seem to have already hit carrying capacity of the run, now it's time to see what my freezers can carry... Edit: Alaska Satin I have a wee bit of rabbit envy for your herd! 😄 I like to go 16 weeks as well, I get a little better weight and one rabbit feeds us and the dogs for several...

Rabbit meat cost , price for sale

If you wait longer than around 10 weeks, you no longer have a fryer, you have a roaster. The meat gets tougher. After 12 weeks the feed to meat conversion ratio also drops, so they put weight on more slowly. Since I either roast or Instant Pot mine and like them bigger, I go a little longer...

What other critters do you have?

Two champion miniature Poodles, 50 quail, 33 rabbits. Plus way too many field mice, and a backyard full of mule deer every evening.

Rabbit meat cost , price for sale

That's about what I have to pay in Central CA. I put myself in the black at $10 a pound per rabbit processed for my family. It's going to take a few years to break even. I'm getting about 3.5 up to to 4lbs dressed at 12 weeks.

    I need help

I'm too new to really know, but I would isolate the sick ones if possible and also practice biosecurity with the others until you get more answers! I'm so sorry! 😔

    Flemish Giant x New Zealand

I have three 1/4 Flemish, 3/4 NZ rabbits. I bred both bucks to full NZ does. My pure NZ kits grew better and faster than my 1/8 Flemish kits. The 1/4 Flemish doe has been a very hard keeper. The bucks have been fine and weigh about 13 lb, only eat about a half cup more a day than the New...

    Worth It?

Mine does the tray cleaning and has taken over quail care. He also built the aviary and jury-rigged the rabbit run. So he deserves his quail and rabbit stews!

    Worth It?

Mine is 98% weenie. After 3 years of having quail he finally sideways watched me butcher one because he was was stoned, and just happened to be in that area of the yard, also because it was spontaneous he was therefore a bit braver. He was amazed at the trick of cutting down the sides of the...

    Greetings from Montana

Welcome! You've found a great resource! 😄 I'll reach 67 this weekend and often wonder WTH I am thinking making the jump to rabbits at my age, when I already have quail and two gardens to manage, but I did so knowing that having good clean organic meat for us and the dogs was worth the...

    Is this a chestnut

Most of that is gibberish to me ATM, but I appreciate it nevertheless! 😁 Edit: THANK YOU! 💕 I was able to follow that to the best of my ability. I need a good book or the genetics forum!

Forgive me for piggybacking, but what is this kit? No white ears. NZ Red doe, dad directly below with mom is NZ with 1/4 Flemish.

Just weaned a litter and doe is VERY thin

We are in the '30s at night with some wind from which they are protected. I don't know if the noise from the wind bothers them, there are things that bang around the property. They usually seem pretty chill when I check on them which is about four times a day. They are all from a warmer climate...
