How the Rabbit Had It's Ears Ripped Off...

My mom and I both raise rabbits. From time to time, we'll trade rabbits for new breeding stock. A couple months ago, I traded her an 8 week old NZW doe for a 6 week old NZB doe. All was well. Then, when I got back from my evening walk one day, dh told me I need to call my mom. I asked why, and...

    Cages FS in Ohio

Yeah, apparently I'm the only one down here! I get excited when I see someone else in Ohio with rabbits...but you ALL live up north! Wish you were closer, or I'd probably take most of it!

    Nest Box Material

I've always used a layer of pine bedding and then a layer of hay or straw. Like you, I was out of hay or straw the last go-around when it was nestbox time. I had some shredded newspaper and the does used it up just the same as the straw. It made for a much softer nest when mixed with the pulled...

    Results from my experiment

I decided to do an experiment with my first two meat litters this year. I usually wean at 6 weeks. At 8 weeks, the kits are 5+ lbs. Decided to try weaning a week early. So, I weaned at 5 weeks. At 8 weeks of age, the largest one is 3 3/4 lbs!!! I've done nothing different other than weaning 1...

    Spring Clean up

In the spring, I powerwash all the hutches. Then each get sprayed with a bleach solution, followed by lots of scrubbing, and a final rinse. I let them sun until dry. Monthly through spring/summer/early fall, I do this, minus the powerwash. During one "the" last warm days of fall, I do a...

What to treat pregant doe with fur mites?

At 5 days out, I'd wait until she kindles. Then treat the fur mites. I hate to use anything on a pregnant or nursing doe, but would rather do it to a nursing one over a pregnant one. Ivermectin is my drug of course.

    Rubbing fur off???

Rabbits rub their chins on things to mark territory. If they do this excessively, I'm sure it would wear the fur off. If it is just pink, clean skin, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on it.

    About to kindle?

Yep, sounds like you'll have babies by this morning. The "panting" isn't from labor pains like people or dogs do. It's from all the fuss she's making digging in her box. Let us know how it goes!

Consuming too much grass in xpen?

My son has a pet Mini Rex named Bob. He is a PIG. The only time this rabbit won't eat is when it is REALLY hot outside. Everyday, he gets hay in the morning, large handful of greens in the afternoon, and 1/4 cup of pellets in the evening. He eats each meal in about 15 minutes. He came from a...
