Received my first rabbit, a 2 yr old Mini Rex. named Baby, complete with velvety fur, as a gift in March 2022. On April 3rd, I purchased two New Zealeand Does, one 12 weeks old and one 6 weeks old, with intentions of eventually finding a New Zealand Buck to breed them. The older doe was half American Chinchilla Rabbit, so her fur is a little different. My husband and I loved them all so much that in June, we decided to accept the challenge to find a Mini Rex Buck for Baby and a New Zealand Buck for the big girls and raise some rabbits. My husband loves to create and build playhouses and small sheds, and all sorts of craftsy items, so he loved building hutches and/or "condos" for them as we grew our little rabbitry.

I ended up finding a handsome Rex that is part Mini and part full-sized, but he was rescued by a lady who found him hopping down a country road in front of her house. She knew the owners, but they were not interested in keeping him anymore. I was in love with him before I ever saw his picture or anything. A friend of hers had Holland Lops. I went to pick up the Rex and ended up with a fully grown Buck and Doe pair of Holland Lops and fell in love with them too. I wanted more than one Holland Lop Doe to make it worth the effort, so in my search, I found a lady with two pedigreed Holland Does and one pedigreed Buck for sale. I went to pick them up and ended up bringing home 2 extra 7-week-old Holland Lops, and 2 Lionhead Does that were about 12 weeks old. In July, I talked to some friends about the lionheads and decided I wanted to find a Lionhead Buck. That turned out to be a major search. A month later, I finally found him in South Mississippi, and the sweet lady had 9 Does and 2 Bucks. One Doe was solid white, and all of them were beautiful, so my husband wanted all 11 of them, but I showed great restraint in purchasing only 2 7-week-old Does and an 11-week-old Buck. I figured if they were that hard to find, they were really popular and of course, I wanted to make it worth our drive. The end of August, I purchased another fully-grown Holland Buck and a Doe with 3 kits, plus the breeder once again talked me into an 8-week-old Holland Buck and a 25+ pound, pedigreed 8-month-old, Flemish Giant to breed with my New Zealand Does.

At this point our shed with the Cool-Air Fans is full and we just don't have room for anymore. All my babies are healthy and happy. The 3 kits are beautiful Lion Lops, and ready to find their new homes. I still work full-time, but I plan to retire in August of 2023, so we decided this is the perfect hobby for us to carry on for many years. The 3 larger rabbits have large 2-story hutches with runs that give them plenty of room, and the run bottoms are covered with 1/2" X 1/2" 16-gauge wire so they are not in danger. We work hard to keep all of their cages clean, so our boys and girls remain healthy and happy. My desire is for everyone who purchases a rabbit from D&L Rabbitry falls in love with their new pet and loves them even more than we do.
