I'd keep the two broken blue does with the yellow and red dots. If I had to choose between them I'd pick the yellow dot broken blue doe. All the rest with the high point too far forward or poor shoulders would go.
Be careful with free feeding oats. One of my kids placed a bowl of oats in with our growouts and the ones that pigged out ended up with runny poop. If I kept if to an 1/16th of a cup per kit per day, they handled it just fine.
I like this video about it.....
I use a deep litter system over suspended cages. I find this system keeps the smell and flies down the best. If it starts smelling I add hay, straw, ect. on top and it's good to go. I have one cage that's really low to the ground, and I worried about it building up too fast. But that has not...
An experienced breeder here in Ohio, shared with me that birds can spread mites to the rabbits. My cages are under a tree that has a LOT of bird nests, bird droppings, and the occational bird playing on or beneath the cages. So I'm keeping an eye out.
Very interesting. I believe in a Bible based world view. According to Biblical history all man kind and animals were vegetarian after God created everything. Animals began to hunt each other after Adam sinned in the garden of Eden. It wasn't until a few hundred years later after Noah landed the...
They definitely aren't fawn colored. I have read through most of those sites every few days trying to find something new to give me clues, find out what I'm missing. Thank you for the lop and steel links. Those were new for me.
The steel variables seem to match what I am seeing. Here are some...
So now that the kits are older...9wks tomorrow, I'm seeing dark ear lacing and a color spot near the nose. Uneven coat color. I took a few shots of different locations on the rabbit on two of the same color rabbits. I think I'm seeing a white intermediate band? I don't really know what I'm...
The pandemic created an urgency for me to have my kids learn animal husbandry of some sort. The amount of knowledge required to keep rabbits healthy is emense. The more I learn the list of things I don't know about rabbits continues to grow and amaze me! But it gets us outside spending a good...
Thank you for the assessment. Cream is not a Rex color. So I'm assuming one would learn such things from studying genetics of another breed of rabbit?
Thank you for reason it can't be the squirl/chin!
Mom had a lilac parent, and sire had a chocolate three generations back.....so the lilac...
Out of an Opal x opal breeding. It has been suggested to me it is a blue chin instead of an Opal with poor rufus and missing the orange band. Thoughts?
Thank you all for your help. I realized that it didn't matter what caused his seizure and following issues, I didn't want to use him as my main herd buck anymore. So he made his way to freezer camp. He was my first rabbit I've butchard. And it went ok. His lungs and liver were clean.
