Help... nursing doe with abcess :(

Thanks very much for your advice and link, Grumpy and Maggie! I assumed it was a pasteurella related abcess because I have had this problem before. But she doesn't have any nose or eye discharge so it is completely possible that it is because of a wound. That makes me feel better... It is hard...

Help... nursing doe with abcess :(

Thanks!! Yes I quarantined her together with the kits, but then wondered if it would be safer to take the kits away too. They would be housed with other adult does so they can still eat cecal pellets. I wondered though if I wouldn't add to the mother's discomfort if the babies suddenly stopped...

Help... nursing doe with abcess :(

Hi, I need a bit of advice... I have a New Zealand doe with 4 lovely kits. They are exactly 1 month old today. I thought for the last few days, the doe didn't look too well... not really sure what it was, she was just a bit too quiet and listless. Today I picked her up and realised she has an...

Need help badly... sneezing rabbits & injury :(

Well, the rabbit with the broken leg has been put down... We took him to the vet yesterday evening and she said it was pretty much impossible to fix... We got medicine for the others - it's called enrofloxacin. Interestingly, this vet didn't see anything worrying about the nose of this rabbit...

Need help badly... sneezing rabbits & injury :(

Hi, thanks for your reactions... Nobody has actually tested the bacteria or said the word 'pasteurella', they just saw the wet noses and said: it's bad. So I don't know what exactly is going on. But judging to what you said, it doesn't look good :( We're taking the injured bunny to the vet this...

Need help badly... sneezing rabbits & injury :(

Hi, I very much need help concerning some sneezy bunnies and an injury... Hope some of you who have been through this can advise me! I run a small pet zoo with about 30 rabbits at the moment (we had a sort of population explosion when one of the males broke into the females' cage and got all of...

    Kits different sizes?

Thanks for your answers! Yes she did seem a bit nervous, well it was her first litter after all and she is young. She is not aggressive though and doesn't have a problem with me touching the kits. She just comes up to have a look. The other doe lets me get on with it :) She does carry the...

    Kits different sizes?

Hi everyone, I'm here to pick your brains again :) I posted some time ago about 2 litters that I got, one of which seemed to have problems... it was a first time litter of 6 from a New Zealand doe. The kits were wasting away at first, I tried to hand feed them but 4 or them died anyway... In...

    Who fathered surprise litter..??

A harlequin? *runs to Google* :) That's interesting about the REW lionhead, I thought his ears and nose were just dirty! :D Yeah I also love the grey kit, last time there were two of them... they are beautiful! I also love the Charlies actually. Thanks for all your help! :bunnyhop:

    Who fathered surprise litter..??

Hi Dood, thanks for the advice... they do indeed share a cage, I hadn't thought they might be sharing the feeding of the first litter and neglecting the second. The two kits I tried to hand-feed yesterday died during the night, too. Now there are two left, but surprisingly, those two look good...

    Who fathered surprise litter..??

Hi BantamBunnies, Sorry I saw your reply only now, but I wanted to say thank you for your information! I have been wondering about Charlies and Vienna and all kinds of other things that were kind of hard to see for me! These first two litters were both taken in the night - the cat or whatever...

    Who fathered surprise litter..??

Thanks... I hadn't thought of snakes, it's a possibility. My bunnies are outside in large cages level with the ground. There is a part at the top that is open and I have seen stray (feral) cats around - they have taken my hamsters before, and it was exactly the same: all hamsters gone without a...

    Who fathered surprise litter..??

I agree, they are the cutest things ever! :D thank you!

__________ Sun Oct 05, 2014 7:16 am __________

Hi everyone... just an update... The brown (tortoiseshell) doe has now also given birth, so it looks like the white male is active ;) She had 5 babies and only one of...
