    need advice on bopping

I prefer the pellet gun where the spine meets the skull. I have two pellet guns pumped up and ready in case I don't get a clean kill on the first shot.

Treated for ear mites still SCRATCHING!

I like campho phenique. The camphor is deadly to mites but harmless to the rabbit. I had a buck come down with fur mites on his face and vaseline did the job quickly. It took only two applications a week apart.

    Ants eating carrots

When I see ants on my carrots a closer inspection will usually reveal aphids or mealy bugs right at the crown. I get rid of them with a combination of greensoap and neem oil. Be sure to let the spray run down into the crown. Neem oil seems pricey at first but a little goes a long way and it...

    Buck not eating much

He may have tried to foist an old buck on you. My original buck is getting up there and "retired" now. I don't have the heart to put him down after all the great broods he has fathered. The older he gets the less he eats although he isn't snaky thin.

    What size nest box

I differ from most in that I like a covered nest box made of wood attached at the side of the cage. Good mama does will keep them scrupulously clean and never void in them, although she may urinate once or twice in a new one to get her smell in there but usually never again. I like my boxes big...

Skin sores on one of my bucks?

I'm almost certain that's a botfly larvae (Very large maggot).Pack the hole with vaseline and if it's still in there it will poke out to get air, then you can pull it out with tweezers. Get a good grip on it and pull but not hard enough to tear it apart. If you keep a steady pressure it will...

    Games Bunnies Play

The most annoying one to me is the "King of poop mountain" game played by my bucks, where they pile all the poop on a shelf in one spot and then sit on top of it surveying their kingdom. I get the shelf all scraped nice and clean and before I put the scraper away they are starting another one...

Almost accused of poor welfare of rabbit.

Treats should be treats and only given occasionally. House rabbits often get overweight from too many treats. Fat rabbits are seldom healthy rabbits. Contrary to the opinion of non rabbit owners they are NOT cuddle bunnies. Rabbits seldom enjoy being handled a lot. The fact is rabbits are prey...

how to store rabbit poop over the winter

If you can smell amonia when it is disturbed it is too hot for plants, otherwise you can pile it deep emough to act as a mulch. You don't have to dig it in. The worms will do that for you. If it smells strongly of amonia you can spread it out on a tarp and let it dry. The amonia will dissipate...

    180 cages waste management

The best waste management is a healthy organic garden. I've piled bunny berries as deep as six inches around my plants with no problems. Excellant combination of mulch and fertilizer.

    Interesting buck behavior

They're probably trying to work out dominance. Lucky for you neither is being overly aggresive. It could well come to that though and if it does it will happen suddenly.

    Talented rabbits

It helps if they are working with knotty pine. The cloud in the second picture was produced by chewing away all the wood except the knot. Right now they are only familiar with our mesa. I may take them to Yosemitey one of these days so they can broaden their horizons.

how to store rabbit poop over the winter

Gardeners are almost as crazy as rabbit raisers. If the kids come running in to tell them someone dumped a load of manure on their driveway they celebrate instead of getting upset. Wow, horse poop! Thank You! Thank you!

    Talented rabbits

My rabbits are very talented. Starting with a simple shelter box they took six months producing these sculptures of their home on Otay Mesa. This one is entitled simply Otay Mesa And this one is cloud over Mount Otay. It took some delicate nibbling to produce the cloud without having it break...
