Butchering 25 in one day - whew!

That is alot of rabbits in one day! Our normal routine is 10 but we have done 16 before. That is tiring. Thanks for the canning info. I will have to try that.

What kind of knife for butchering?

I use a retractable razor blade to cut the part of the leg to hang them and use sewing shears for everything else. I tried different knives but have found scissors much, much easier.

    Fasting Before Butchering

We don't withhold food or water either. We just let them carry on their same routine up until the actual time of slaugher.

    Recipes!

I just discovered the beauty of poaching meats. SOOOOOOO easy and quick. For rabbit, I put an entire rabbit in a pot and add water just until it covers the rabbit. Then I add salt, cumin, coriander, rosemary (or whatever type of seasonings I feel like at the time). Bring to a boil (not a...

    Different breeds in colonies

Oh my, I wouldn't want my minis to be hurt so I think we will just do the secure divider thing and go with that. Do any of you raise mini rex's for meat? I know they are a small rabbit but since we raise quail for meat, we figured in relation to the quail, they are quite bigger. :)

    Different breeds in colonies

Hello all, I really enjoyed reading this forum. First of all, I just wanted assure you that I did read just about every post in the colony forum. :) We currently raise coturnix quail in a covey (similiar arrangement as a colony arrangement). Now we want to do the same for rabbits. The...
