    Packaging rabbit meat

Unfortunately I'm far enough in (Manitoba, something like 1200ft in my area I think), and far enough away from any larger US towns anyway it wouldn't be worth the trip for just that. My dad's company actually has a US postal address that we occasionally use for such situations, as they go in...

    Packaging rabbit meat

It's not so much that we have an issue with them, as maybe they just aren't as commonly used? I dunno tbh. My grandmother for example, and many of her peers did a great deal of canning, but never with a pressure canner. I'd never take that risk, but that was just her generation (she'd be in her...

    Packaging rabbit meat

I'd love to get an All American, but they're a little pricey for me currently. It wouldn't be so bad, except since I live in Canada (where it's weirdly difficult to find any reasonably priced pressure canner actually), so shipping is horrible. Even on a used one from eBay that looks good...

    Hi everyone!

Aha, and gotta admit, a buns feet are pretty cute to look at! It's good you've gotten nice well furred, wide feet on them. Definitely a good goal. Interesting about the little triangle they get- I'd be interested to see if thats universally rex if I do get some. Or on any variety tbh- I have yet...

    Hi everyone!

That makes sense! I haven't had much real life experience with rex, just pics, so I haven't had the chance to examine any feet up close. With the fur type, I can see that being an issue though, given regular furred buns have such thickly furred feet. Thankfully outside moisture wouldn't be an...

    Hi everyone!

I hadn't heard that rex had a hock problem typically! I'm hoping to get silver fox, but they're scarce enough I may only find rex instead. My hutches are good 1"x1/2" cage wire on the bottom, with a large permanent wooden platform that I can put a shelter box on, since we have cold winters and...

The New Safe Plants for Rabbits List

Lovely, thank you! It never occurred to me to feed cattail, despite what a good and useful plant it is. Anyone know anything about it's usefulness in rabbits? I'll have to do some research. I'm always curious about raspberry- I hear all the time that the prickles are ok, but the kind we have...

    Catching Rabbit Poop

Oof, ya- the amount of times I get shocked or even scolding comments about not using Facebook is crazy. Tried it out close to a decade ago I think it's been now, didn't like it and deleted. It's only gotten worse from what I hear. I used to be on a bunch of forums then, but it's so much less of...

Are these rat droppings? Please advise and help!

I'd be wary of poison, not only for others getting into it straight up, but the then poisonous rats then get picked off by other animals and birds, and they too get poisoned. It can be pretty tragic for birds of prey for example.

Really like your bread pan idea! I think I'll be using that in the future! I don't have rabbits quite yet (the shed with the hutches is finally all but ready now- just need the buns!), but I look forward to trying to can some. A pressure canner was on my Christmas list, so we'll see ;)

    Hutch division/sharing questions

Oh, more posts- excellent ;) Hopefully I get lucky and get a doe who plays well with others! Possibly something I can look for when I look into breeders too. Theres only one possible silver fox breeder I can find in my area, and that's the kind I was hoping to get, but I'm not completely closed...

    Hutch division/sharing questions

Oh ya, that's a good point about the sharing of kits and that. I hadn't considered it. Thanks, I'll definitely consider that- I mean it's not as if I can't put extra meat away in the freezer or anything ;)

    Hutch division/sharing questions

Oh perfect, that's the exact sort of thing I was hoping was possible!! I see how much buns seem to often bond in pet homes and that, that I really wanted to find a way to get those social benefits. I think then I'll probably try something similar to you- get two does that are already a pair...

    Hutch division/sharing questions

I'm not too concerned about mixing up kits, as I'd very rarely have more than one litter at a time going, or at least, they'd be very staggered. The meats just for me and the occasional gift- illegal to sell it here unfortunately. My idea was to only do this if the does were already well known...

    Hutch division/sharing questions

Not entirely sure this is the right forum, but I'll go ahead anyways- I'm making a bunch of hutches as I want to get rabbits, probably in the spring. Was supposed to this year but those plans fell through. I have one long wooden one, about 8 feet long and 30" deep, that I can divide into half...
