Hi All! Excited to be here. I'm new to raising rabbits and looking forward to learning from everyone here.

Welcome to RabbitTalk. What kind of rabbits do you have?

Thanks! I'm starting out with three rabbits: I've got a mature red NZ buck, and two 6 month old does. One of the does is a blue NZ and the other is some sort of NZ cross. Based on recommendations I've received I will probably wait to attempt breeding until the girls are 8 months old. I spent a ton of time on my big shelter (I named it The Rabbitat when I was putting the roof on, hence my user name)... I'll have to take some photos and ask for feedback from you all!

Welcome. I am in St. Maries.
There are a lot of opinions out there on when to breed. Some go by weight, some age, some both. I have a 9 plus pound NZ/Rex/Chin doe that is only 18 weeks old. The only reason that I have not bred her is because I currently have 4 litters and 3 pregnant does.
She came from my little 7 pound, 4 ounce doe.

I would love to see pictures of your bunnies and rabbitat.

Thanks for the info! Amazing that a little doe like that can throw such a fast growing/big bun! I will definitely keep that in mind. I gotta get my does on the scale soon to see what weight each of them is up to at this point.
I'll go make a post in the "Cages, Hutches, Colonies & Equipment" forum of what I've got so you can take a look. For now, here are my two does and buck. Apologies for the low light. I tried to get out there before dark but the low light made things challenging. That, and they seem to be somewhat camera shy.

I love the red. I only have one red and that is the little mama with big growouts. She has 4 red kits though.
I found a nice scale on marketplace in CDA for $15. It is nice to be able to monitor their growth.

I'll do a more extensive post on my setup over in the "Cages, Hutches, Colonies & Equipment" at some point when I get the chance to write up the details. For now, here is a photo of it since you asked! Didn't want to leave you hanging.
I didn't want to make it permanent by tying it into the structure of the house or sinking footers into the ground (as in a lean-to) in case I end up moving it at some point, so that's why I had to make the structure the way it is with all the bracing. From far away it looks like it's tied into the house, but it's actually free standing.

Yep, that is the scale. The gal had two so I bought the second for my son who also raises rabbits.
The rabbit in that photo is from my first born litter on our little farm. Bella is now 12 pounds 8 ounces at 8 1/2 months old. She is my second largest next to my purebred, 7 1/2 month old, Flemish Giant.
I love raising rabbits!

Are you going to close it in a little more to protect against the winter wind? Rabbits do great here but they need to be sheltered from the cold wind.

I actually did a little bit of that today on the short end that's open. We don't get a ton of wind on that end of the house, but I will be sure to get it more buttoned up across the front before the really cold temps arrive. Thanks for the suggestion!
