Ear mites ivermectin?

Buck has ear mites how do I treat I don't want to inject anything and I don't want to swab his ear out as I am currently on his good side and plan on treating the rest of the rabbits too. What do I use? And where can I find it
 
We have a solution and use Q tips to put it in their ears and they're almost all fine with it
 
I treated ear mites with a few drops of baby oil into the ears for a week or so, repeating it after 2 weeks to be sure. Since sulphur is toxic to mites I mixed a little flower of sulphur into the oil. Worked like a charm, it was a single incident, no other rabbits than my buck was affected.

Ivermectin will work too I guess, but here I can't get any without vet prescription, oil works too anyway.
 
If you don't want to swab his ears you aren't going to treat the ear mite problem. If you pick him up and flip him on his back quickly, dip him so his head is lower than his body (picture doing the Tango) you can do whatever is needed to him and he won't get upset. It's a great way to trim nails and teeth as well as swab ears. You may need a 2nd set of hands until you get the hang of it.
 
I know some people put the drops of Ivermectin (how ever many is appropriate for the size rabbit) in the ear or on the back of the neck. It works systemically, so it just needs to get onto the skin to start getting into their systems. You don't have to do it as often as if you used oil in their ears, since it stays in them for a while. I have not used it before (just used a little mineral oil for mine). We use the horse wormer gel type of Ivermectin. It's 1.87% Ivermectin and not any other active ingredient. The feeds stores around here will sell it without a prescription, but I've heard that's gonna change in about a year. If the stuff will keep in the freezer, I'll buy a case of it before they make it inaccessible. If you can get the gel paste Ivermectin, then just a dab in each ear or behind the neck will fix the mites.

Can you look at your ivermec and let us know the % active ingredient? There are LOTS of formulations of ivermectin. To be safe with our rabbits, we should know exactly what formulation we're talking about.
 
The easiest way to treat any parasites is to invest the medicine goes thru the blood which is what they are feeding on
We use a pea size dose in the mouth of ivermectin 1.87% horse worming paste kills parasites, ear mites and fur mites. Usually 1 dose is all you need to take care of any problems if you have a problem just treat all your rabbits a tube a paste will last years for a small rabbitry for under $7.00- $8.00.
 
I wish it would last years! We use two or three tubes a year, although there's between two and three dozen rabbits here at any particular time. We also use the Ivermectin on the sheep, too, so I suppose that increases the amount we use. There's only two sheep, though. Hmm, that's still more pounds of sheep than of bunnies, even if all the bunnies were all stacked up on one side of the scale and even just one sheep on the other side. Well, maybe about even if it were just one sheep. So I guess it's one tube per year for the bunnies and one each for each sheep. Considering each tube of Ivermectin is supposed to treat a 1,200 pound horse, we're probably overdosing the herd and the sheep but they get multiple treatments per year. But, we've also given away a few tubes of Ivermec now and then when other folks had problems. Guess maybe the bunnies aren't overdosed after all.

A quick, easy, and single dose treatment I've had success with is Revolution. There are dosing charts for rabbits online for it.
 
Why would you use dog flea prevention when all you have to do is get a tube of ivermectin 1.87% horse worming paste and give your rabbits a pea size drop behind front teeth into their mouths it will kill all your ear mites, fur mites, and worm your rabbit all from that single dose and depending on how many rabbits you have that tube of paste for less than $10 will last you a year and you don't need to torture your rabbit messing with his ears trying to get mites out with oil and other treatments.

How does this affect breeding and eating of meat? Do you have to wait to breed, will it render meat inedible?
 
Can't answer that question, most likely no noticeable effect after a few days wait, but I don't see a reason to use medicine with possible side effects if a few drops of simple oil does the job too. I reserve the use of potent chemicals to instances when I really need it.
