I thought we could start a list of rabbit supply companies for others to benefit from. I know it can be hard to locate them sometimes, especially the smaller ones. I'll put in the ones I know of, please add any that you have found (with their location)!

Ace Hardware? Ikeuchi's? (our local hardware store) Rabbit cages and hutches are really easy to build, no need to try to source them from a specialty company. Rolls of wire and wood can be bought from local suppliers which encourages local suppliers to stay local. If you want all wire cages, just buy the wire and some clips or use more wire to wire the cages together. It's not hard.

We used to get used refrigerator racks from our local dump and use those for doors and walls. They work a treat since they're a stable wire 'wall'. Now we frame up things with 2x2 wood and then nail or staple 1"x1/2" wire to that. The floors are made to be removable since the first thing that is gonna rot out and need replacing is the floor. We have matching floor plates and doors set into a stationary frame. Roofing tin is on top of the frame. This also allows us to disassemble the hutches if and when we want to move them.

We do get the water nipples from Bass Equipment since our local feed stores or hardware stores don't carry them.
 
I saw some excellent cages at the New River Valley Rabbit Show last weekend but unfortunately he was sold out of the ones I wanted and he’s from Michigan.

I can’t find anyone in Virginia who builds cages so it looks like I’m going to build my own. So there! :)

I bought this book on Kindle for $2.99.

I’d prefer to buy so if anyone knows of a builder in or near Virginia, please let me know. Thanks!

I’ve built all of my cages using the instructions from the book: Story’s guide to raising rabbits. You just need 1’x1’ 19 gauge hardware cloth, 1’x1/2’ 19 gauge hardware cloth, wire cutters, j clips and j clip pliers. I am medium handy and I found this very easy to do. Bonus you can make them as large as you want and in a multitude of designs. I even built an L shape grow out pen with a separation door for when I gender the kits and to keep the males and females apart.

hardware cloth is horribly hard on bunny feet with the little burrs on it. Use regular cage wire with j-clips.
