My mom always put peanut butter on traps. Now I know that we could have saved money buying traps, She never reused them, just tossed mouse and trap in the garbage.
Absolutely jOhn. Rats are pretty clever too. i think this type of bait is pretty much safe to use. rats love onions too. So get a swing bin, put peanut butter in the middle of the lid. Next morning you will have a good few. The mice are dead within 20 minutes. Good luck

Because rats cannot burp,if they eat peanut butter, they will die through the trapped wind. The farmer told us what to use. So whatever is in peanut butter, it works.
I really think someone pulled your leg there. Peanut butter is a great bait, but also perfect food. If you mix it with plaster of paris, that's a different thing.

Just did a search for onions, well, yes, they are toxic to rats, but I highly doubt a wild rat would eat enough even when mixed with peanut butter, it's not easy to poison a wild rat fast enough before it wiped out some more rabbits - but that sure is worth a try, dosn't cost much.

Still, set good quality snap traps.
Playing around with diy improvised live traps can be done, but I wouldn't relay on it.

Why don’t you try it. Trust me it works.

We feed lab mice and rats peanut butter if they are sick and underweight. They do indeed love it. It is good for them. I can guarantee that the peanut butter itself has absolutely nothing to do with killing them. I have most definitely "tried it", in a controlled lab environment. I have also seen a rat jump right out of a swing bin. Maybe your lid was configured differently.
