I am looking for a rabbit farmer who dispatches their own rabbits with a "hopper popper" style cervical dislocation device and would be willing to teach me how to do it humanely. I have experience but struggle physically with rabbits larger than 6lbs. If anyone is willing to let me come to your farm or homestead to walk me through the process of dispatching and cleaning for human consumption, please reach out. Will pay for your time and as many rabbits as we dispatch that day. Would also love to see your setup and what you've found works best in raising your herd.

I'm fully vaccinated and can pay with cash or etransfer. I would prefer a woman mentor so our strength levels are more closely matched.

I am not local to you, but I can say I am not strong, and I am kinda short, and can use a hopper popper type device on a 12lb adult with no trouble. The trick for me was to mount it to the wall at about my hip height, so that you have the leverage to pull up at the same time as you pull back. Basically if you can carry the rabbit there you can do it, as long as the device is at the right height for you. I hope someone local to you can give you a hand, just wanted to chime in with encouragment.

Oh, thank you so much for the encouragement and insight! I have mine mounted closer to shoulder level and I pull down, using my body weight to assist. I will certainly try your way, or maybe even lower to use my leg strength.

i don't use a hopper popper but could teach you the rest.

Wow, thanks! That would be wonderful! Out of curiosity, what is your dispatch method?

Yes, up and back is easier I think, the bone is stressed more rapidly, and puts the pressure on the spine right at the bar, rather than just stretching the neck and potentially having the spine break somewhere else. I could do it by hand with a small or young rabbit, but my arms just aren't long enough or strong enough for an adult. A hopper popper/rabbit wringer/bunny bar works more easily and consistently. Also you can still use body weight just by leaning back.

My dispatch method depends on the size of the rabbit. Choke chain (small and young rabbits) or broomstick (piece of rebar) - big or older rabbits.
